I am a new preschool teacher, and in my class I have a set of twins, who do not speak English. BTW, it is an ESL class. They do not interact with anyone else, and are very affectionate with one another. Yesterday, they were kissing during circle time. In line, another teacher said she saw them kissing with their tongues.
My question is, is this "somewhat normal"?
I intend to talk to the mother but would like feedback before this discussion.

I am concerned that they are not interacting with anyone else. The kissing is an issue because they are not aware of anything or anyone else in their surroundings.

If they're preschoolers, maybe they were just imitating something they saw on T.V. or in a movie, or what they saw their parents doing when the parents thought they were alone. I doubt that they knew exactly what they were doing. Kids experiment with things like this all the time as they make these discoveries. But they do need guidance, so it is a good idea to talk to their mother about it.

I don't think anyone on here is going to give you a miracle answer! God if they do they'd be a millionaire! I have two girls, one is 3 and the other 20 months. My eldest went through the same thing when she was 18 months which was very tiring with a newborn having night feeds also! It then just kind of got later and even went to 6.30! LOL. It feels never ending but trust me it is just a phase. My youngest started this last week and believe me i know how tiring it is! My trouble is they share a room and my 3 year old would probably sleep while 6 but now is up at 4.30-5.00. One good thing about having two children that share a room is that they occupy each other. Tell them they are not getting up while 7am and allow them to play quietly. I have a TV/DVD in their room and i put that on but not everyone feels the same about that! So sorry i don't have any answers for you but it will end and there is 'light at the end of the tunnel' - trust me xx

It sure doesn't strike me as at all normal for little kids of that age. Even if their family members kiss each other on the mouth, it isn't particularly "standard" for two siblings of that age to be kissing each other (the way, say, their mother or father may kiss them).
There's a huge difference between siblings and other family relationships (mother/child, father/child, grandmother/child, etc.)
You're the teacher, and I'm not; so maybe you shouldn't listen to me; but I think those little "not-so-far-from-babies" kids have seen too much somewhere. You probably agree that most siblings would not kiss each other in circle time. They usually do their own thing, maybe talk with each other or even fight with each other - but what you describe is bizarre.
I think there's the chance any kid may do some bizarre thing at one time or another, so I'm not saying those little kids are "off"; but the act, itself, was bizarre.

My daughter is 20 months and thinks it's funny if our tongues hit when we are kissing so I think 4-year-olds should know that the tongue is not "normal." I would talk to the mom but be very nonchalant about it and don't make a big deal. Maybe talking to the mom would also help them find ways to interact with other children. Regular kissing (aka pecks) is totally normal, in my opinion.

They're innocently unaware of the oppression that adults place on the expressing of affection. Any attempt to say "Stop that! That's wrong!" would only start them down the road of shame that most people were sent down by their parents and teachers when they were that young. It'll happen to them soon enough at the hands of some uptight adult, so you'd be doing them a service by not injecting traditional taboos and pointless guilt into them.

We are a civilized society. There are social graces that need to be taught. Eventually what else would be innocently acceptable??Public genital fondling? Geez..Limitations on children are necessary. What about the not as "affectionate" students by standing wondering what the heck they are doing???!!

I would try to find out what is normal in this family. Study the children and then when you meet the mother, tongue-kiss her right off and see how she reacts,
