well it depends wether ya using alot of softwares and which kinda computer you own(does it has enough RAM& harddisk)
okay lemme tell you few ways to speed up your computer hope this wld do all good for you
1> Its very important to defragmant your computer tht after a regular interval,,like 15 days or so( cause it helps your computer to use your memory more efficiently) like it gets wasted whn ya copy movie and then delete ...so tht memory get unutilzed, dfragmanet helps it up
startmenu>>program>>acessories... tools>>defragment(drives)
2> disk cleanup! tht helps you out by removing unecessary files stored over thr in computer like temprary files tht your Game uses,or internet temprary files...which are of no use
strtmenu>>prog>>access>>sys tool>>diskcleanup
3> suppose you have windows in C: then please go there and you would find a folder called *temp*
just make it empty manualy
4> get your Registry arranged well ,you can use softwares like systemmechanic, pctuneup! and many others then can help u out with these registry problem
5> and keep your C drive as less loaded as you can bcoz its primary drive which is loaded or Read first when a computer boots and it has windows files in it,,,
6> keep your startup! program list limited coz it unecessraly spends valuable RAM memory at start
goto documentsetting>>user>>program... the useless ones
7> Keep you harddisk drives(C:,D:,E:) in almost equal propotion
its very effective memorymngmt scheme
8>Remove all duplicate files using System mechanic or anyother
software
even if this doesnt work then my dear friend please consult your service provider and vendor coz there may be some hardware problem.

How much memory do you have?
What is you're connection speed?
Those are the two biggest questions.
How many programs sdo you have running at the sametime that's a huge problem as well.
Viruses?
Run Scandisk, and Disk Defragmenter AFTER you add/remove programs if you have worthlessprograms on you're computer.

All the above are good. Mine really slowed down when i installed Norton's 2006 internet security. I might need more RAM.
Also i regularly use a free product that removes spy ware and ad ware..it is called Ad-Aware SE personal.
