Because they are taught that questioning their preacher will lead to hell.
So, they never question anything they are told so long as the speaker claims he is a Christian.
Comment about "Kevin Hovind":
Kent Hovind is a known fraud & charlatan currently under indictment by the US federal government:

Only a moron would cite him as an authority on anything.

Yes to both. There is a set of Christianity that insists that the Bible is a totally literal historical book...period. The notion that creatures gradually evolved from lower life forms runs directly up against that comfortable assumption. They desprately try to hold on to their beliefs in the literal reading, flailing wildly away at any evidence to the contrary. Much like a child trying to retain a belief in Santa Claus regardless of what his peers tell him.
It would be sad if they weren't so successful at trying to get their beliefs into the classroom and the lab. They keep getting shot down, but they keep on trying...it's all about faith, you see. The more resistance they get, the more certain they are that they are right...after all, they were warned they would be persecuted!
Just how the religious majority can get persecuted by a small minority is never really explained...
Edit: Christians pay attention: The ToE IS NOT ABOUT HOW LIFE CAME ABOUT! IT IS ABOUT HOW ANIMALS ADAPT AND CHANGE THROUGH NATURAL SELECTION! The question of how life come from unlife is adressed in a seperate science called "abiogenisis." It's focus of Chemistry.

Premature fear. It's better to join the mainstream where loud voices are much reassuring than the little voice that presents facts. In my opinion, if only they can think outside the box, they would see how very compatible evolution and Bible account on creation. Anyway, for now it's better just to leave it that way. The evolution and Bible are idea whose time has not yet come.

I believe evolution happened. I just believe creation happened first. Can you prove to me that the ape is not a degeneration of man. Perhaps the upright came first. All you can tell me is that the two share some of the same genetics. You cannot tell me by which course this occurred. I choose to believe the Bible and have seen the evidence of it truth. Is it ignorant to believe what I have seen with my own eyes. True, there are some questions, but I've seen enough to make a decision. I would think true ignorance would be to deny something I know nothing about.

Assuming you're referring to Christians (hristians?), there are other theories. evolution is not concrete, like it or not. Where do you think the original molecules that started everything came from? nowhere? it takes more FAITH to believe something came from nothing, than to believe in Creationsim. Nothing from nothing comes.
Do you just think that if you believe in evolution hard enough, and never investigate other theories, the other ones will go away? Aren't YOU just being willfully ignorant by refusing to investigate something else? hmm....

They've never seen the moths in UK that changed color. probably because of coal soot in their environment, the lighter colored moths were eaten, leaving only the darker ones.
Evolution happens in MEASURABLE WAYS all around us.
BUT... DARWINISTIC THEORY IS BUNK
As a species evolves, the previous version usually becomes extinct... like light colored moths ;-)

I don't ignore Evolutionists. I debate them and win everytime. My e-mail is one my profile. E-mail me.
Evolutionists hate Kevin Hovind, yet he still hasn't lost a debate.

Because the bible says God created the earth. It didn't evolve. There was no 'big bang', it was created by God.
