my friend gets annoyed with people he meets at the bar when they introduce themselves to him twice during the night. Is he short tempered or is it polite for them to remember him the first time? does he need to simmer?

He shouldn't be annoyed with them, it's his fault for not making an impression the first time. :p Why is he so pissed that people don't remember him? Is he that self-absorbed?
OR do like the other person said, make up a new name, and career and have some fun at other's expense. I actually do that, and it can be quite a laugh.
Even better is giving a fake name and a real phone number. When they call - you get to laugh a whole other time!! Ok, it's mean, I know. I've never done that. I swear.

he needs to simmer. upon a first time meeting (or second or third) in a bar, you aren't so likely to remember a person. he needs to face it that odds of retaining an introduction are stacked against him. it's not that he isn't memorable (or maybe he isn't i don't know him!) but it's favorable these people aren't sober. i know when i've had a couple i don't remember the new people unless for some reason i should retain them (ie i'm going home with them). as well as in such a busy social setting you are talking to so many random people it can be hard to keep it all straight. he just needs to get over himself.

Most people in a bar are drinking. Some people tend to forget who they are let a lone you. Just tell your friend to chill. Remember where his at and why some people can't handle their alcohol. Tell him not to sweat the small stuff. Life is to short.

They've probably been drinking and can't remember too much. If this bothers him a lot, may be he should stay home. Some things you need to take with a grain of salt.

Re-introduce yourself back at them and each time be somebody different. Change your name and what you do for a living. Tell them you are a traffic controller and am on your way to work:)

It's called alcohol. It does things to people's brains. Maybe your friend needs to start going to church to meet people, he wouldn't be the first.
