if you feel you have the evidence to back it?

I deleated this question once, because after re-reading it, I felt that a clever person could figure out more than I wished them to. So, just the bare bones of the question... Submit the report or submit to BOHICA?

navy VET who once served with the man before he became Admiral. And when I did, I never would have believed I'd ever be asking this question about him.

Yes, its possible, but not always effective. You probably will have to go through the IG, because the entire chain-of-command reports to the Admiral. A certain United States Air Forces in Europe commander was almost certainly committing a lot of fraud, waste and abuse. A lot of people complained about the wasted money (mainly to the IG). He was eventually asked to retire.

There is a lot of fear involved with reporting an admiral or general, but since you are retired, you shouldn't have to deal with any reprucussions. And the IG is supposed to be completely confidential.

YES you can!

Like every government Department, the DOD has an Office of the Inspector General, which usually has a Hotline. It's the job of the Inspector General to investigate waste, fraud, and abuse. You can report anonymously, but they will take you r complaint less seriously. If you give your name, you can request that your name be kept confidential. But, if only you are aware of this information, whoever is being investigated might be able to figure it out.

Here's what the DOD IG website says:

Anyone, whether uniformed or civilian, who witnesses what he or she believes to be a violation of ethical standards and/or the law, including but not limited to fraud, waste, or abuse of authority, potential leaks of classified information, or potential acts of terrorism, should report such conduct through the chain of command or either directly to his or her respective service Inspector General or directly to the Inspector General of the Department of Defense Hotline at 800-424-9098 (e-mail: hotline@dodig.mil)

You can also contact the Navy Inspector General. Their Hotline information is on their website:

If your husband is still under the Admiral's command then you can go the IG or the DOD hot line without fear of repercussions, as they say you have "whistle-blower protection under the law" Good Luck. :)

I'd advise you proceed very carefully - and have one hell of a case. You'd be better off speaking with the Inspector General first.

Possible? of course it is, that's what the IG is for. But as previously stated, you better be able to prove your claims.
