Enroll her in ballet. It not only make them make friends, but it also makes them have to be the centre of attention. Ballet is also incredible for the memory and helps them at school. All the older girls 17+ at my daughters ballet school are high achievers and much of this is to do with dancing all their lives.

Do they have classes at a local community college in poise, confidence, etc. Also, dance class or learning to play a musical instrument could be helpful. If so, encourage her to enroll. She will meet a lot of people, doing the same thing as she is. Sometimes it takes someone other than a parent to influence young people.

Ive tried this and found it to work.. Plan on being with her all day.. And no matter where you go to eat.. let her order for both of you. With you telling her what you want prior to giving the order.. It helps with her confidence & works on that shy part by talking to strangers each time she orders.

She is only 5 yrs.old.She will overcome it as she gets older.Don't push her.It is not unusual for a child this age to be shy around other people.Give her time.

when my daughter was little like yours, she wouldn't go to anyone...not my mother, mother in law, nobody...she was bubbly and funny and full of life, but when it came to being around any one other than me, her father, sister and brother, she was my velcro child!!!..wouldn't leave my side, don't know why, but our neighbor at the time was a 16 yr old boy, nice kid, and helped build a little tree fort for the kids. (it was under the tree, not up in it)..and she would talk to him no problem...but adults she wouldn't go near...She is 23 now, and shy? lord no!!...But!!...still doesn't like most adults, loves little kids and elderly people, the ones in between she has no patience for....go figure...just her I guess...
