Please be more clear...
Are we to assume that "we" are the USA? Please remember that not everyone in the world (and therefore on the internet) is on your side, and those that are aren't always Americans (I for instance am British).
In the initial question you ask how many "people" have been lost, but then go on to change your question by asking how many "soldiers" have been lost. "Soldiers" are only a sub-set of "people" - not everyone in a war is a soldier. Again, this makes your question too ambiguous to answer accurately.
When you say "lost", do you actually mean "lost" as in "not found" or do you mean "killed", or do you mean "died". All three are very different statistics, and any answer would be meaningless without knowing exactly what you mean yourself.
And lastly - nobody knows any statistics about this war. All numbers you hear in the media are estimates, and you'll find those numbers are in proportion to how much the writer in question doesn't agree with the war.
Rawlyn.

I believe the number of soldiers dead in Iraq is close to exactly equal the number of deaths on 9-11, although since I saw that headline earlier today, Im sure the numbers have gone up again...seeing how wonderfully everything is going over there and all. You can just google it to find out specifics though.
And in case youre ever interested in how many Iraqi civilians have died (because its way more) you can look at:

About 3000 plus human beings, Fathers, Sons, Friends, Neighbours were killed, maimed, smitherned to pieces in Iraq. Brought home in body bags and hidden away by George W Bush for fear he might be held accountable by the American people. George W Bush, who never has faced a weapon pointed in anger at him or his family, will need yours and your girlfriend fighting spirit soon to bolster troops in Iraq. Guess what, when you come back to your country you will not be a people you will be just body bag no. 3000 and ???. I feel sorry for you, your family and the American people you all don't deserve this.

Since the Iraq war is a a current event the number keeps increasing.
The counts also vary depending on which soliders one includes (E.g., American soliders only or American an soldiers from other nations.)
Right now, the count is at 2931 total non-Iraqi miltary personnel killed:
2697 from the US
118 from the UK
116 from other nations.
There have also been 19,910 injured US personnel.
Again, these numbers will change. These numbers also do not include private defense contractors or Iraqi soldiers who died supporting the new Iraqi goverment.

There is a difference between the war, and 9/11. on 9/11, unsuspecting civilians were killed without provocation.
Those who have died in Iraq, and Afghanistan were *volunteers* who *knew* the risks, and went anyway, because they *believed* in fighting for freedom.

No its not an american war, it was initiated by Pres. Bush, not me, I support our troops, but think the war is an unwinable one, they have lived that way for centuries, the brainwashing anti american garb has been passed down from generations to generations, and is still going on today, have no real clue why we are there, they aren't going to turn into a civilized country, just like all the other places where religious finatics like to blow themselves up, so I think the 3 thousand who have died so far, were a sacrifice that shouldn't have happened....

a better question is "how many years ago was 'mission accomplished' declared?'
p.s. figure b/t 10 and 20 Iraqi citizens for every u.s. soldier; at close to 3000 americans that would mean more than 30,000 Iraqis(hint- if you think that indicates success, you are horribly wrong). In summation: more than 9/11, and longer than WW2
p.p.s crazy_air: if this was "america's war" we wouldnt be in iraq to begin with, and we would have had bin laden.

how many people have been killed by drunk drivers , since the war started, bet it's more than what has been killed in iraq. i think i would rather die in iraq, defending this great country , than by some drunk liberal democatic senator, at least i would die with honor, whereas the senator would have my death covered up or have the police report saying i ran into him and i was drunk. one thing you can say about our military in iraq and other places around the world, NO MORE PLANES HAVE CRASHED INTO OUR BUILDINGS
