The answer is yes. The brain and the spinal cord make up the central nervous system. The spinal cord is an extension of the brain stem, which is about the thickness of your thumb, and 3 inches in length. The spinal cord exits the skull through a hole called the foramen magnum.

I would say that many of the nerves from the spinal cord go directly into the brain.

The spinal cord attaches to the Brain Stem. if the spinal cord wasn't attached you would be a Paraplegic or Quadriplegic
