I took Miss Meow for grooming, you know shampoo, nail clipping, etc. She is 17 years old so I was worried about her being drugged. I was assured that would not happenbut when I went to pick her up and she could hardly stand, no one would talk to me so I left and immediateley took her to her vet. They did blood work and found that she had if fact been sedated. Question is, do you think the clinic should be taken to task for what they did, at her age they could have killed her. I thank the powers that be that she is still with me but I think a mandatory donation to the SPCA would be in order.

Wow, i had no idea how many cat lovers were on line...thank you to everyone for your support and suggestions. This is not a "take it to a lawyer" issue, this is about fair treatment for those who can't speak for themselves. Well folks, I dable in the law system and I think it is only fair that this shop makes a donation, I'm thinking $1500, how does that sit with you?

I had a kitty about that old and I can't imagine drugging her (i got the full experience washing her on my own and still have scars from it (she's gone now the momma had lovly kitty children and I still have the runt of the litter my little mouse). I washed her when every necessary because as they get older they may not fully clean themselves. She started walking in circles, like a roomba vaccum cleaner over and over, I was always scared she'd bump into something but she seemed to have her senses. She was 16-18 when she died. They are so fragile at that age and they really risked her health, they're organs work so hard just to keep them alive. I don't know what you can do for recourse. I'd be really pissed if I went to pick up my kitty and she was half dead.

I would definitely ask the groomer to explain themselves and I would certainly not use them, or possibly any groomer again. There may be a blanket policy to sedate animals for the protection of the animal and the staff, not that I agree with it, but then I think it's a bit much to have an animal groomed, especially such an old animal, has got to be upsetting to Miss Meow!! She is getting on in years you know. Glad she made it through the ordeal and glad she has such an attentive owner, so many aren't as lucky, which breaks my heart. And I think your compromise is a good one, people take note of bad policies when it affects their pocket book and the SPCA is an excellent organization to give the funds too!! You may have some legal recourse, if you want to carry it that far. Would love to see the case on The People's Court, Milian would be an impartial judge, just a thought...but let me know. Peace. and give Miss Meow a treat for me...

They should be held liable for what they did but as someone mentioned if you have no proof that they said they would not drug her there is probably no legal action you can take. I don't know for sure so it would be best to talk to a lawyer. I would be sure to contact the manager of the groomer's and let him know what happened. That is horrible what they did. My 16 year old cat Bobby who passed away in July was too old for minor surgery. That's what 2 vets told me. They said it was much too dangerous to give him the drugs to sedate him. Make sure your vet gives you a statement concerning the drugs in her system and the dangers it could cause.

First of all was it a Vet Clinic? A regular Groomer shouldn't Be allowed to give sedation unless provided by the owner who got it from their Vet. Its strange that your Vet was able to do blood work and find this out usually you must know just what drug you are testing for otherwise it wouldn't show up in a routine blood screen

I'm really sorry to hear that you were misinformed for the groomer they should have simply informed you that it is necessary to sedate a feline when the nails are being cliped imglad to hear that shes doing ok but it also sounds like they may have sedated her a little too much if she couldnt stand i would recomend you contact the owner of the parlor and file a formal complaint and if that doesnt work contact you local BBB. and believe me i contribute all the time to the SPCA and other foudations like it

I have 3 cats, 2 rescues from our local humane society. My cats are ages 14, 2, 4 months. And I would definitely call them on it. And if need be sue the pants off of them. What if she had a heart condition, or her liver enzymes were sky high because of some problem. That could of meant instant death. I can't believe a groomer would be allowed to keep such things on hand!

Go back to the place where you got her groomed and talk to the Manager if she or he is not there demand they get you somebody.......Let them know your concerns and how unsatisfied you are with there treatment of Miss Meow....they should at least pay for the Vet. and the blood work done on her....you might also want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau they will also investigate ......my cat "kozzy"....was 16 years old...when it was time for her teeth cleaning my Vet. informed me that it would be very dangerous for her due to her age.....

I think $1500 is a great donation. They should have to give something to Miss Meow too. She didn't deserve that. I would really make them do something. Maybe write up something in the paper if they don't.

Yes you should sue, report them or whatever. Especially since you were assured it wouldn't happen. By the way, it is not easy to bathe a caat without sedating her. So don't take her for grooming again. She will lick herself and you can brush her hair once in a while.

Take it further, get the vet to give you a written report.
Why not groom her yourself, it is a great de-stress and enjoyable for the both of you. Get her a scratching post. There should be no need to have ur cat shampoo'ed unless she has done something to get herself oily/greasey or anything like that.
Scratching post for her nails.
The other alternative is to get one of the home groomers - they come to your home and you can see exactly what they are doing
