By reading God's word, you can better understand what it means to be a true Christian (same for any other religion too).

Praying is ultimately pointless because it doesn't matter what you say to God; all that really matters are your true beliefs and feelings. God is all-knowing; there is no need to recite these beliefs and feelings since He already knows you better than you know yourself.

Your time would be better spent acting on what you have learned from the Bible.

Both are part of the basics. It is better to pray first, then read the bible... and then pray again... You would be more effective if you can pray God's word. There is power in His words.

It's not a question of what is more important.
It's a question of what devotion God wants you to have right now that nourishes you.

Maybe you aren't getting enough excercise, and God wants you to pray while swimming or running.

Maybe you are too busy and work too hard to avoid reality, (workaholic) and God wants you to sit still for a minute and read the bible.

Many Protestants are discovering the rosary as BOTH a bible study and unceasing prayer. Check out this Miracle Ecumenical Rosary here: http://www.ecumenicalrosary.org/

I would say God's word is the most important even though they are both necessary. Reading God's word is how you spend time with him and grow. In His word are psalms, which are prayers. Sometimes you wanna just talk to God and tell him what's on your mind. But there's no prayer like returning God's word back to him when you speak it out loud.

Praying is more direct communication with God. But, You need to read the Bible to better understand who you are praying to.

If you just want to see what you can get out of God, then just pray, and watch nothing happen.

If you want to KNOW God and have RELATIONSHIP with him. You might wanna consider just reading God's word and pray about what God's word means. Say like "Daddy, please reveal yourself to me through your word so that I might KNOW you and come to LOVE you and learn to RESPECT you as I should.
Then of course, follow through as you've indicated your intentions to be, and watch God add to you, all of the things that equal greatness in his sight.

Well, since there is no way to really read God's word, the question is moot.

it goes hand in hand... praying is talking to God and reading the Word is the place where God can speak to you.
