All versions of Windows 95 and 98 are lumped together under the name Windows 9x. These include Windows 95, 95-OSR2. 98, 98SE and 98ME. All of these are the Windows version 4 family. Windows 2000/XP is Windows version 5.

Windows 9x, Win 9x

Windows 2000, 2003 can be referred as
Windows 2xxx, Win2xxx, Win2K, Win 2K3

Win NT and Win XP is for Windows NT and Windows XP

9x means 9 plus any other alpha numeric character such as 95, 98, 9b, etc. In the case of Windows 9x, it means Windows 95 and higher. Which includes all windows operating systems.

It is windows 95 or 98. the X encompasses both versions I suppose.

It is not Windows XP or Me.

Windows 95 came out in 1995 then it was 98, then ME, then finally XP came out.
