you have to enrol the help of her mum or sister or someone you can trust, ladies are very clever and suspicious creatures, on your own you will never do it!!! if she visits your parents you could enlist the help of your mum, leave a ring gauge about, from jewellers, and when girlfriend comes get your mum to start measuring your dads fingers, pretending she is gonna buy him a ring..............a girl just can't resist ring gauges...good luck !!!!

Dont just buy a ring to have it re-sized even though the shop will re-size for you, but they will only re-size so much of a ring. As long as you keep the receipt and do it within 14 days of buying it.
To find her ring finger size is difficult without her knowing what you are doing but I suppose you could always measure it while she is asleep, use string and keep the length. Take the string to the jeweller and they can work out the average size.
If you are stuck at that ask the last person to buy them a ring. (parent/friend)
A good ring type would be a white and yello gold band with a emerald cut diamond. Its nice not to always use just a plain diamond.

Guessing her ring size is tough. Is she really tiny? Skinny fingers... ? Can you compare her finger size to yours on the sly...like maybe it is about the size of YOUR pinky?
Small - I would suggest 5 1/2
Medium - I suggest 6 1/4
Larger - I suggest 6 3/4
A little heavy - Size 7
The ring can always be sized... just do not get an eternity band or one with filigree, detail, diamonds, etc around the UNDER side as that is where the sizing / extentions are done...
Definitely get her the diamond cut you know she likes...
And if you were also asking about the diamond size...the myth is it should cost equal to 2-3 months of your salary. Marriage is forever and although your feelings are the absolute most important thing, it is nice to have a token of your love and marriage that you can wear with pride. That may sound shallow but unfortunately most girls are very competitive and compare. Some people (not I) think the size of the diamond is a reflection of the mans love.
In any case, she will be absolutely thrilled with any diamond ring... \\GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

Hi I dont know what everyone else is sayin size 5 etc I am an L. I have quite skinny fingers. I would say on average a size N would be best but if you think shes a bit bigger go for that. Jewlers will change ring if it doesnt fit. Make sure its big enough cos they can tighten it. Mine is a cluster with diamonds at the side too and its lovely. Very sparkly, sparklier the better. Good luck too the both of you.

I like mrslang idea - play about making a ring from a paper clip or such like - she will think you are a bit strange but its a nice idea.
At the end of the day of it needs a little adjusting after you give it her most reputable jewellers will do that free of charge anyway.
Emerald cut diamonds are beautiful,
Or you could take her to Birminghams jewellery quarter as part of a weekend break - you could propose at the top of the big wheel & then she can go choose her own.

My now husband and I were goofing off one night when he decided to "make me a ring" from a paper clip. I thought he was nuts, but it was kind of cute too in a cheesy way. So he straightened out the paper clip and wrapped it around my finger. After he had it really close to my size he giggled and said that it looked tacky and took it off. I later found out that is how he knew what size to buy. He took the paper clip ring to go by. I have emerald cut diamonds and I love them. They gleam and shine like crazy. I also have princess cut and round diamonds in other settings. I have no problems with my emerald cut diamonds. If that is the one she likes, go for that one. They are truly beautiful cuts. Good luck and best wishes.

Promise earrings are not any further an analogous as engagement earrings. A promise ring is a hoop promising to stay authentic to at least one yet another. there continues to be no promise of marrying with a promise ring. An engagement ring is a hoop that symbolized that both human beings conform to get married and plan a wedding ceremony interior the close to destiny

Do not, and I repeat, Do not get a friend of hers to tell you, remember us gals can't hold secrets quite well, so unless you do know the friend is the worlds best keeper of secrets don't go there.
What my now husband did was the following: Whenever I had rings on he would start playing with one of my rings either by asking me to let me play with one of them or by just removing it discreetly, since he did this frecuently I didn't think much of it, and while playing he put my ring in each of his fingers, so, when the time came for him to choose an engagement ring for me he used his own fingers to try them on, until he found the correct size.
Hope this helps...and good luck with the whole process, Im sure your gf will love it.

She'll love it no matter what kinda diamond is on the ring. My dad's engagement ring didn't even have a diamond and my mom fell for him! They're still together and have been for 17 years.

usually the Lady's finger is the size of a mans pinky or the finger right next to the pinky if she is a small petite lady then she is most likely a 5-6 if she has a lil meat on her bones then she would be a 7-8...hope this helps

You know.. you have to be sneaky.Go to the store prior to you going with her and give the Jeweler a heads up to help you. Then tell her you need suggestions helping you shop for a ring for your sister or mom or anyone female you know.. and then watch as she trys things on .. Listen to what she likes and suggest.. to know what your next move it on your selection for her.. good luck..I love surprises. Or when all else fails.. ask her mother for it.
