i don't know what causes it, but i know exactly what you are talking about. i think it is an allergy. it goes away on its own in three or so days. here is what helps me: I rinse my mouth often with mouthwash. really strong mouthwash, like listerene original (not watered down.) When I don't have that, I mix two capfuls of hydrogen peroxide (the kind you clean wounds with) in a cup of water. Use any more peroxide and you can hurt yourself. When I don't have peroxide, I use a tablespoon of salt in a cup of water and rinse with that. Sometimes these take it down overnight.

If you burned your tounge then it might take a while to heal about a week. If not then I would seek some medical attention asap
