I have a four pound chihuaha/rat terrier mix who is very sick right now, and I wonder if it is due to her licking my husband who is on the medication Ultram. He had been outside and sweated, then he came in and played with her and she licked him quite a bit.
Her right side keeps convulsing uncontrolably, and she was gagging and dry heaving with no result. She seems very shaky, and she keeps moaning quietly. Now she is asleep.
PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO TAKE HER TO A VET. I AM GOING TO TAKE HER TO A 24 HOUR VET AS SOON AS MY HUSBAND GETS HOME FROM WORK IN A BIT.
I just want to be able to tell the vet something, and wonder if there are any similar stories out there about this happening to their dogs or cats.

Let me add that if you have any additional ideas on what may be going on here with her, let me know.

I don't think so. I was on a Duragesic patch for a few years, and one of the side effects was seating. Keep in mind that the narcotics in the patch were 80x's more powerful than morphine, but it didn't affect my dog when he licked me, and he's a little dog.
Good luck.

First off, I am sorry you are going through this, my dog was sick recently and it tore me up.
Secondly, your dog is not sick because of any medication that your husband is on. Ultram is metabolized in the liver and does not leech out of your skin, but I could see how you could make that connection.
The best thing to do is take her to the vet ASAP, I don't have any clue what it could be...however, it sounds like she ate something she shouldn't (food/object) have particularly because of how acute the onset was. For now, keep her comfortable..and don't give her any food, until you see the vet. Good luck, and please update us on your dog's progress if you get a chance!

I'm pretty sure it's not possible... but weird things happen, perhaps bringing it up to the vet is a smart idea... but think of other things she might've eaten, see if there's any clues anywhere she walks/hangs out. It could be a certain food or plant poisoning, make sure to take note of any plants you may have and bring that up to your vet, as well.
I truly hope for the best with your dog and send her my prayers.

I checked with my vet if dogs can become addicted to tramadol. They do not. If they are acting strange it is probably because they're hurting from whatever they were talking the medication for.

No. Medications are excreted through the kidneys. I do not know of a single drug that is not excreted in the urine. His sweat does not contain any of the medication in it. Only his liver, kidneys, urine CNS (central nervous system), and nerves contain the drug. Unless the dog ate one of his pills it could not have abtained the drug by licking his sweat.

Pleaseeeeeee!!!
No. Any medicine would be entirely too diluted in a person's sweat to affect anything.
I bet your question just gave life to a dozen new urban legends.

I guess a vet would know, but I highly doubt it.
