I know that they say you can hunt "small game" but what does that really mean...and do you eat the "small game"? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I am really curious.

Anything from the size of a large dog or smaller can be cleanly killed with a .22 LR. Many things bigger than a large dog can be killed with a .22LR but then you get into shot placement, bullet type, range, etc. The definition of small game varies from state to state, but the over all of it is, any wildlife not listed as protected or big game (or migratory water fowl) that you'd be willing to eat. Racoons, squirrel, rabbit, possom, grouse, snake, wildcat, coyote, fox, badger, lynx, the list goes on and on. If you intend to hunt any of these though make sure to find out the regulations in your state as to seasons, permits/tags, etc

1st take a hunters safety course. Make sure you get a small game license and then "yes" you can hunt small game with a .22. Small game depends on your area but typically it means squirrels, rabbits and 'vermin' like pairie dogs or groundhogs. Crow also have a hunting season here in Indiana, though I don't hunt them and certainly don't eat them. Squirrels and rabbits are tasty and very much like another 'small game' animal, chicken.

I used to hunt squirrels with a .22, and yes, I would eat them. I also have killed some duck with a .22., and lastly, I used to go frog hunting with a .22 pistol loaded with rat shot (and I ate the frog legs too).

I myself hunt rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, opossums.A 22cal.rifle is deadly on anything with light skin.It would kill deer, elk, moose and so on with heart shots but is illegal to use for that. A ethical hunter should use the animals that he or she takes either by eating them or selling the hide to fur buyers.

Normally dog size and smaller. Rabbits, squarrels, frogs, raccoon, etc. It is good for small varmints, possum, skunk, rats, birds, etc. Yes, you can shoot bigger animals but not recommended and possibly illegal such as on deer. Rabbit, squarrel, frog legs, etc are very good to eat.

hunting with a .22 is one of the best pasttimes ever!!!! it's cheap as all get out, it's ******* fun, it's not too loud at all, there are a variety of bullet types. small game is any varmints, snakes, pidgeons and small birds (that are not flying), gophers, squirrels, rats, frogs, turtles (just kidding about turtles, i guess you could shoot one if you want though).

Squirrel, possum, raccoons. My buddies granddad would use one to hunt deer, always a head shot and always got his limit.
