Electricians! Why does a plug have holes?

From the plug at the end of my antique toaster, to the plug on my brand new TV, all of them have little holes on the prongs that go into the outlet, WHY?

The holes are there for the pin that keeps the prongs straight when they put the plug into the molding machine.
