#1 is true of almost any dog breed that has hair.
#2 ...I've seen some nasty chows in my time...they are pretty headstrong and testy. Not a breed for a first-time dog owner.

basset hounds don't shed any more then any other breed if kept inside just give it a comb out once a week, if you notice a lot of shedding then watch for bald spots. #2 chows are affectionate as much as any dog can be by the amount of affection you show them and they are great with kids I had 8 chows and 3 kids and the youngest was 1 and a half and my son would pull fur and they never never bit him they would just move away from him and stay away but then return to bug and kick him to death and protect him from harm and my discipline.

Well i dont know about # 1 but on # 2 i had a chow chow and he turned on me.His name was Barney and he was really cute but he bite my sister in the face and she almost died.We had to put him down.Funn thing is that my sister was 1 year old and my chow chow didnt bite my dad.So he didnt turn on the grown ups just the little babys!

I have a basset, she sheds a bit less than my other two-black lab mix and shepherd mix. As far as the chow, I've always heard they can be kinda temperamental, but I would say it's all in how it's raised, like any other dog.

do not trust the chows, have known too many that turned for no reason
