What do morals (the choice of right or wrong actions) have to do with what you eat? All biological life lives of the death of some other form of life. Hitler was a vegetarian (http://www.geocities.com/hitlerwasavegetarian/) does this make him "morally superior" to Martin Luther King? I can see no difference in your choice of super-market ground beef versus hunted deer except that one person likes hamburger and the other roast venison. Finally, what does this choice have to do with etiquette, which is code of correct or polite manners? Under etiquette, it would be "wrong" to serve a Hindu guest the market-bought ground beef or a Kosher or Halal guest the deer - but that choice depends on the guest and not on any moral choice of meat.

Neither. And neither is it morally superior to be a vegetarian. We humans define layers and layers of contrived morals. We realize that life feeds on life, get some weird guilt about it, and then try to remedy the situation by defining certain life that is moral to eat and other life that's not. Then we project the guilt onto others who are eating the 'immoral' life. All BS. Just eat what makes you feel healthy.

The wild deer would have to be checked for any dangerous viruses so why hunt and kill something when there's already meat available on the stores

First off, it is not Immoral to eat beef or venison. So, morality does not come into play. It maybe hypocritical to tell people they can't be hunting deer while you are eating a hamburger...

A wise person once said - know the cow that gives you milk! You could try to extend that to see how it fits in your situation.

In my opinion, no killing (human/animal/bird/plant/...) can be justified as "moral" if one says that:
"moral" = "ethical"
or
"moral" = "fundamental principles of right conduct"

In my mind Killing can only be justified to survive.

I once grappled with this same ethical question....

I decided to become a "compassionate homnivore"... I feel guilty eating any meat, but I still eat it because it is good. Who doesn't crave steak? Or a good elk roast?

Every cow I've eaten is one I've killed in self-defense.
