I can think of many ways this word is used. I should look it up and get some solid information, but instead I will wing it, because you did ask for my thoughts, not something out of a book.

Honor, as in honor your father and mother, is an action. Many people equate this with obey but it is more than that. It means living ones life in such a way as to show respect and reverence for them. It means to live in such as way as to reflect well upon them and to live in such a way as to not reflect poorly upon them.

When you honor an agreement, also a verb, you hold fast to your word. You do not change your mind and do something other than what you have agreed to do.

When you give honor to someone, as a noun, you are giving respect to that person. Such as presenting someone with a reward or words of praise. You are bestowing upon them praise and/or legitimacy. You are affirming their worth

If you have honor, a noun, it is a quality, like beauty or honesty. This can be related to courage, or integrity, or such characteristics. An old phrase people used to use was 'on my honor' or on my reputation.

In the judicial system, a judge is referred to as 'your honor.' This signifies that person's standing in the proceedings, his worth in the situation, his position. It is a title of respect.

That's about all I can think of right now. I've thought too hard and the word doesn't look or sound right now. Ever done that, thought about a word so much it starts to look like something else?

Honor is having a real sense of what is right and wrong, and enough respect in yourself and others to do the right thing, no matter how difficult that should be.

fred,
Jesus said that a prophet in his own country, among his own people is without honor. Or I would say this: It would be a great honor to the best democrat in South Bend for our President Dwight Eisenhower to knock on his door to visit him. What makes the honor is the importance of the one that's knocking. [Jesus knocking on the doors of your heart]
What if Moses said, "Well, now, Lord, I just had some schooling. Honor is take off your hat, so I'll take off the hat." That would never worked. When God said shoes, He meant shoes. [Honor and obedience are inseprable]
What is the woman's beauty and honor? Is her hair. That's the reason many of you women today cut it all off. That's wrong. She she took her hair and begin to wash His feet, and wipe them, her pretty hair, taking the stink off of Him, upon herself, bearing His reproach. That's when you recognize Who's in your presence. Our sisters would have to almost stand on their head, to get enough hair to do that. So there she washed His feet, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and she kissed His feet. [Here we see honor and sincerness are together]
