You describe inserting water into your ear followed by a decrease in hearing of sudden onset. This is a common problem that frequently occurs when showering, hairwashing,or swimming. Of course, any water inserted into the ear will have a direct effect on your hearing. The important thing is to get rid of the fluid quickly before an ear infection develops. The middle ear provides a wonderful environment for infections to develop. This site is a warm, well-nourished, dark, and isolated place that facilitates the growth of viruses and bacteria resulting in potentially dangerous infections. The major signs and symptoms of ear infections are pain, swelling, fever, redness, decreased hearing, colored drainage, dizziness, poor balance, and nausea and vomiting. Since this is such a common problem with swimmers, it earned the name "swimmer's ear". There are several over the counter ear drops that will dry the ear rather than waiting for the body to disperse the fluid over time. Since swimmers so frequently deal with this problem, the most common type of eardrops sold for this purpose is called "Swimmer's Eardrops". If your symptoms last more than 48 hours it is wise to get your physician to check your ears.

I am not going to ask why!

It probably means you have water on your ear.

If the water is in the left ear, stand up, hop up and down on your left leg with your head tilted so the ear is down. This usually breaks the surface tension and allows most of the water to drain out. It will still be wet, but should feel better.

Ummm, ok. Turn ur head the other way and put water in ur left ear. Then they will be even, and u won't notice any difference in hearing.

put some alcohol and you'll be fine, you might feel a little hot inside lake burning up but, is only a little, use a piece of cotton and squeeze it right into your ear.
