ITS NOT SAFE!
1) This causes dehydration in the mother and will cause constipation later. Dehydration is dangerous to both mother and baby for obvious reasons.
2) The castor oil can cross the placental barrier and the baby may have a bowel movement called meconium inside the womb. Meconium is thick tarry and toxic. You do not want that because the baby may aspirate it (inhale it) and clog up the lungs. Nobody wants to have a baby staying in the hospital for a long time.
PLEASE DO NOT TO TAKE CASTOR OIL!

DON'T!! I TRIED IT and it was the most awful experience I've ever had. I didn't take much, maybe a tablespoon or so, but I was on the toilet wishing my intestines would come out because I'd already shat everything else out!

Have some rough sex. That'll do it if the baby is ready. I tried EVERYTHING (if you couldn't tell) and that was the only thing that worked.

For those of you worried about 'too early', I was a week over due and my doctor was threatening to induce me. I DID NOT want to be induced and tried to do it myself. I did go into labor after sex, but was still in early labor when I was scheduled for my induction so I ended up being induced anyway.

Me C probably has the best answer.

Castor oil isn't safe to take while pregnant. Any ob/gyn with a brain in their head will tell you that. If you want to induce labor, have sex. There are prostaglandins in semen that help bring about labor. My doc, and the nurse midwife in his clinic both have said that if you're overdue they'll "prescribe" sex as a way to help get labor started. It's not a for sure thing, but it can definitely help speed things up. Good luck.

Castor oil will help you go into labor because it causes you to contract. My husband's grandmother took it to have 8 out of 9 of her children. My husband's mother took it with him, my sister-in-law took it to have her son, I took it to have my daughter and my best friend took it to have her son. It DOES work, but you have to take it around your due date time... not too early. My husband's grandmother took about 2oz with each of her children. My sister-in-law downed a 4oz bottle (I wouldn't reccommend this), I took about 2.5oz (at 1 cm dialated) and my best friend took 1.5oz (at 6cm dialated). I'd drink 1oz or maybe a tiny bit more. Do NOT give it a taste test or smell before drinking it. Try mixing it with some Dr. Pepper and keep stir it constantly until you drink it because it separates fast. You'll have that baby within 24 hours! Be aware of the risks of course. Take contractions seriously and once your water breaks be ready to head to the hospital immediately. My best friend had her baby last month. She started having contractions and put off leaving (plus her water broke in the shower and she didn't know it) and she had her baby in the car on the way to the hospital. Everything went really smooth though. Just my advise, if you are going to take it, I would take it a couple of hours before bed. Take 1-1.5oz, then go jump in the shower, make sure everything is packed and in the car, eat you a good supper since you can't eat when in labor and get some sleep! Good luck!!!

Caster oil is only dangerous to take if you suffer from constipation from it and become dehydrated. Some doctors still recommend it but I strongly advise against it. I took it when pregnant with my first. Out of a small bottle of it I was able to keep down a swallow or two. That night I was in the worst pain of my life. Instead of inducing labor like cramps it often produces intestinal cramps and the worst diarrhea of my life. In comparison I would rather give birth twice without pain killers then go through that again in my life.

Hey i have had six children and castor oil will work you need to take an entire 4oz. bottle. You might want to drink it mixed with rootbeer it helps it go down easier cause its really thick. The castor oil will aggrivate your digestive track which will cause your uterus to start contracting. You will need to be near a bathroom , and you should try to walk to keep your uterus contracting. Its worked for me everytime. It's worth a shot and your far enough along that you will not be putting your baby in danger.Good luck

I had a friend, mixed 3 tablespoons with her chili, went into labor within 3 hours, I drank 3 bottles, and still went 3 weeks over my due date! ANd we were sure of my due date due to artificial insemination! I would say take 1 tblspoon, then wait one hour, one more tblspoon. the reason it causes labor is because it causes everything to contract, like your bowels and everything, so contractions start, labor starts!! WHat finally broke my water, after membranes scraped 4 times, was pumping my breasts. Pump your breasts, the body thinks, uh oh, we have a baby nursing, we must have just had a baby, so your body goes into labor to push foreign object out!!

It works for some and not others, DON'T DO IT. Why put yourself through the misery when the baby is not going to come until it's time.
Have you tried praying ?

Why would you want to rush your child being born? Usually they are sticking around in there for a reason.... just let nature take its course (or your Dr in due time)
