If the parents of your rottie are unregistered then you will not be able to get papers. Pedigrees go back many generations and chances are that the parents of yours came from an unlicensed background. Although you have no papers you could still show your rottie at Companion Shows which are open to all but you would not be able to show at other shows where K.C Registration is required

You won't be able to get papers on your puppy if neither of the parents have papers.
That's why when you want a show dog you pay more for a good blood line and papers. When you get a dog from the back of a truck you have no idea if its even a pure breed, especially if neither of the parents have papers.

The POINT of the registration paper is to have a accurate record of the parents, GRANDparents great grand parents and on back. Since you dog parents have no papers you have no idea of who the grandparents are even if you know the parents. THerfore the only way to get AKC papers is to have parents with AKC papers or one of the approved forien registries. Now you CAN get an ILP paper (sortta a half registry) which allows you to show in obedience/agility but it will require spaying first (with a certificate from the vet).

If you bought a puppy from two parents that where registered but the litter was not then it would be possible with the parents papers to register the puppy. If the parents are not registered AKC would not allow you to register your puppy. I am not sure what the requirement for UKC registration would be. It might be that they would allow a Vet to take samples of the puppy's hair and run a genetic test on the puppy to see if the animal was a pure bred or if there was any other bred in the genetics of the puppy. Keep in mind the mongrel strain could have come prior to the parents.

usually the person who sold it to you give you papers with the parents names and information. its not really possible to get real akc papers without sending dna, showing dogs costs thousands of dollars, and is a full time thing, you usually have to hire a handler and invest shitloads of money. i think you also have to be able to prove her parents are purebred. call the person who sold her to you, other than that just love her, make sure you feed her a food that does not have corn as the first ingredient. iams and nutro are good brands. chicken or beef or turkey should be the first ingredient on the bag. make sure if she is outside she gets heartworm preventative, flea and tick control, and deworming at least once a year. pretty much all puppies have worms... just take her to the vet, in case you did not get any shot papers either, she probably needs shots too.

If neither of the parents are registered, you won't be able to get papers for the pup. My German shepherd is pure bred, but the sire doesn't have papers, so I can't register my dog.

you could get papers. but what you don't know is if there is a genetic problem with your dog's ancestors which would transmit to it's progeny. I know it's kinda hard to hear that but popular breeds like the rotts, goldens, german shepherds, etc.. now suffer all kinds of problems like goldens having agressive episodes towards children (which is an aberration to the breeds' characteristics) or anatomical problems like hip displasia in big dogs and so on due to unplanned or irresponsible breeding. Hope this helps and good luck.
