I stay in shape, and we talked about this when we started out together, but she has put on about 10 pounds over the past 3 months. I like her a lot, but she knows I prefer her to be more on the slender side. So what should I do? I am thinking about cooling it with her but I feel like Shallow Hal.

Pretty much great answers, folks. Thanks. The thing is, we TALKED about this, so I guess I am feeling dissed on some level. I know: Wah wah wah... Anyway, I like the proactive suggestions.

Ask yourself this: If you were to become ill, or permanently disfigured in an accident, and this would change your appearance, how would you feel if she cooled it with you just because she no longer found you as attractive as you once were?
Maybe you ARE Shallow Hal, and that's why you feel guilty.

After 17 years of marriage I can only say that you love the one you met. I know all the BS about loving in any circumstance and to a degree it is correct. But you were attracted to an individual for a reason, if it is nothing but laziness then you have a right ot say something. If it is medicinal then that a different story. You will find most if not all the people that call you shallow Hal are NOT in the same shape as when they were first married. It is call LAZINESS folks, not age. My wife and I after 17 years look better then ever and are in the best shape of our lives.
Stop making excuses for getting FAT ! ! !

To answer your question it is really simple. If you really like and care about her like you say that you do then her weight shouldn't be an issue. Yeah guys perfer a trim and fit female, but it can't always be that way. My boyfriend works out all the time. When we first started dating I was not in the best of shape, but I wasn't fat either. He liked me for me. He encouraged me to workout and he took me to workout with him and because of the moral support I was able to loose weight and be healthy and it brought us closer together. I'm saying all this to say, you should encourage her more and invite her to workout with you sometime and just support her.

Make a decision and live with the consequences.
either just enjoy it or find someone new
Has the pudginess reached its limit? more fluffy, enjoy
My best love was not the slimmest one. I wish we kept each other. After her I had a very slim trim sporty healthy girlfriend, but I really missed loving the fluffier one

. Dont chastise her but have her do fun stuff with you .Do stuff outdoors . Hey wrestle with her as a form of foreplay. (let her win but make her work for it ) Sex burns lots of calories , have her boink the stuffing out of you while riding you . Finaly 10 pounds is not that much . Hey thats water weight .

I don't want to seem like a dick here but looks never last forever, date a person for their personality, although a good idea would be to ask her to go for a jog with you or hit up the gym.

Why don't you both go running and exercising together? Go running outside, hiking, rollerskating, do situps. You may go running around your neighborhood or at the park. what ever you do you both need to do it together. When u guys go out to eat buy healthy stuff. Or cook together or make salad.

You need to stop. you have a girlfriend that cares about you and you should treasure that. Somebodys weight should have no meaning in a relationship. turn it around and think how yu would feel if she wanted to leave you cuz you were getting fat, or worse, too skinny..

have as much sex with her while she's skinny, then move on to one who's younger and better looking. Throw her to the curb with the trash, cuz she's only worth something if she's got a perfect body. Keep doing that until you die a lonely, pathetic old, fat moron.

dont worry. just say let's eat a salad place or something like that, you're not like shallow hal unless you want your girl perfect, and skinny skinny, it's okay to want your gf slender, and pretty, every guy does, unless well never mind.
good luck.
