It was stupidity....She was an easy target, that's why. Sad, very sad. Muslims are going to push people too far. And in the end, they will lose.

There are two types of reasons for taking any actions. Long term reasons and short term reasons.
Long term reasons (LTR) are the reasons that have been accumulating since a long time. LTRs preheat the oven. Anger in people keep building up. This is like accumulated explosives, waiting to go off.
Short term reasons (STR) are the ones that occur recently. They give the spark to the anger accumulated through LTR. It is like the last straw that has been pulled and now the entire mountain will come down in landslide.
Not only Somalia incident, but also world wars may be explained in this light. I allow people to disagree with me. It is possible that this is not the right answer.
The Somalia incident is a result of LTR like war that has been affecting the psyche of people. It builds up an insane anger in people's minds. They can't realize what is wrong and what is right. All they need to do is release this anger somehow. Hunger poverty, colonial suppression, all these are the long term reasons.
STRs are the small incidents that ignite the anger. Pope's comments became one of these small term reasons. The nun, being the extended representation of Pope had to bear the brunt. Apparently, people wanted to attack pope. Since they couldn't attack pope, it was the nun that was attacked. And the attack was also not really the result of what the Pope had said. The attack was the result of long accumulated frustration with the western economies, native governments, hunger and poverty.
The nun became victim of blind release of frustration. I think rather than passing moral judgements on the people of Somalia who killed the nun (the killing was obviously wrong), we must try to analyze the reasons why so much of anger was allowed to build up.

There are lots of ignorant people and emotions are a dangerous thing in the hands of an ignorant person. People intensely love the Prophet. In my case, I love him more than my parents or my children, as he introduced us to God Most High as well as the great ones of Israel as well as the basics of ethics.
That said, the Prophet said the innocent will always be safe from the hands of Muslims. This nun clearly was innocent and thus according to the saying of our Prophet, the people who killed her were not Muslim. It is as simple as that.. why?
Because the Quran says in 5:32 "Killing one innocent is as if killing all humanity, and saving one innocent life is as if saving all of humanity". The context is the killing of Abel by Cain, and thus not only killing Abel, but also killing all his generations.
Those who take actions in their own hands and kill an innocent nun are criminals and do not represent Islam.
If I had religious jurisdiction on that area, I will find out who killed that nun, and had them executed according to the Laws of Islam if it was proven that an innocent person was killed for no other reason but the statement of the Pope, for which she bore no responsibility. Even the Pope did not commit a capital crime according to the laws of Islam.
When criminals are tolerated, evil expands. Devil many times wears the garb of the religious, but fools only the ignorant, not the spiritual or the truly religious.
I hope this answers your question.

It just points out the correctness of the statement the Pope read, even though it was not his own idea but merely a quote from someone else.

The murder just proved the comments made were correct. Not all muslims are radical terrorists just like not all born again belivers go around bombing abortion clinics. The nun's death was needless senseless violence.

You see muslims, like all theists, are irrational, selfish, and childish people. How else do you explain belief in a fairytale that dosen`t exist. When these views are challenged or when something dosen`t go their way they throw a tantrum, like little children with guns. Scary.
