The basic Yaris goes for approx. $12,000 in the four door and gets 40 mpg in the five speed manual shift, but it requires some upgrades over the basic model to bring it up to speed. The Honda Civic, comes with a lot of these "extras" in the Yaris, as standard equipment. However the Civic runs about $15,000. The engine is more powerful, but I'm not sure on the gas mileage. Some say 50 mpg. but I can't find anything in writing from a reputable source. What say ye?

Perhaps I should add that my present Integra (Honda) has 262,000 miles on it and still has great compression - and gets 35 mpg. on the highway. My wife's Toyota Celica has 226,000 miles on it and gets 25 mpg on hwy. I don't need to know that both companies are great. I already know that. I was actually looking more for answers from people that might actually own one of these cars and could therefore give me some hands-on feed back. Fit and Nissan - Ves. not even in the same class as far as good looks. I want style, comfort and good looks as well as efficiency. The fact that both are made by the two best car mfg. in the world; well, that is a given. Next.

I've been wondering the same thing. Civic, Corolla, or Yaris.

From what I've seen, a Civic will be more in price, even above 15,000. But that also depends on the area.

A big consideration is that the Yaris is new. New cars have problems. It's a fact, no matter how good the company is. Do you want to be the lucky one who finds out what happens to the Yaris in a couple years?

I would go for the Yaris simply for price and the novelty of it. Besides, the new Civics look a little weird this year.

The Honda would be a better choice to me simply because it gives a better fuel mileage and its not underpower as in the case of the Yaris. Plus, have u seen the Yaris' back compartment??.....what can u possibly cramp in there??

The civic LX, EX is rated at mid 30's for highway mileage. I would look into the Honda Fit if you want to stay in that 12K range. It's a new 5door hatch that is suppose to be pretty fun to drive.

go to www.kbb.com look up hatchbacks, then honda, then Fit, 2007

good luck

Honda is better it may cost more but if properly cared for hondas last longer and have fewer problems then most of the cars on the market. if you are buying used get a car fax report first.
