I can't lose weight! Why?
I have been trying so hard to lose weight but nothing seems to be working... Here's some things I have done:
1. Been on a strict diet (no sugar, no candy, and no pop)
2. Being a vegetarian (still am)
3. Working out all the time (5 times a week for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours)
4. Some things that I should not have done (you can only think)
5. Drank only water for two weeks (lost 20 pounds but this doesn't work anymore. I dont know why)
-------
I still work out and I'm not eating any sugar, candy, or drinking pop. I'm actually gaining weight since I'm working out all the time & that adds muscle. However, my figure is not getting any smaller! I weigh 180 and I want to lose a lot more. Anybody have any tips? Thanks!

Its all about calories...keep your calorie count below your normal required daily calorie intake and you should start losing weight. You can find you daily requirement by this link below:
http://www.hpathy.com/healthtools/calories-need.asp
scroll down...about mid page for the calculator...calculate...then count the calories of the food you eat and then reduce or add to your needs...
Remain active, take vitamins because you will need them since you arent going to be eating alot of food. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. and also, EAT all foods in moderation, dont quit carbs(pasta and bread) JUST eat them in moderation. Sugar too is needed for your body to do certain functions, but try to get sugar from fruit rather than the plain o' sugar we put in our coffee. So dont disregard sugars just because people say its bad..ITS NOT IN MODERATION! and from great sources, like fruit.
Fried food isnt something you should keep up with on a daily basis...once a week is fine...!
I maintain my weight at 145lb by strictly watching my calorie intake...used to be 190lbs...i feel healthier than ever and never took any pills or sought killer excersizing!!!
For me it works and many have tried it too and works...
but i take no responsibility, i am no expert or doctor so what ever you do is your own decition.

Ok. Well, not eating actually slows down your metabolism. I can't believe you drank water only for 2 weeks, that's crazy. A good way to lose weight is to eat a 1200 calorie diet. You have to eat healthy, I understand you are vegetarian but you might also need to take a multi vitamin. You want to eat 5 small meals a day. Losing weight the correct way takes time. I've been on a 1200 calorie diet and have lost 6-7lbs in one month, which is the correct way of doing it. I eat breafast which is usually a glass of milk, cereal and fruit. Then I eat lunch which is a salad with 2 tbsp of dressing, milk or yogurt and my main meal which is very small (i'm on nutrisystem and I eat something the size of those microwavable cups of chef boyardee, hope you've seen that before). I have a snack in between lunch and dinner which is fruit and a thing of yogurt and then have dinner which is usually salad or fruit, protein (I have 6 almonds), vegetables and the main meal which is never more than 300-400 calories.
If you work out alot then you will obviously gain muscle but you should notice how the weight shifts and you should notice your clothes fitting better. I'd do cardio, if you do cardio you don't build muscle you shed fat. That's my advice.

I hate to tell you this, but it's probably just your bone structure. There is such a thing as being "big boned." Plus, it's a little harder to judge since you say you weigh 180lbs but never mentioned how tall you are. You also have to remember that muscle weighs more than fat (from what I heard...could be wrong though).
But don't look at it in the sense that you want to "lose weight" but you want to lose fat instead by checking your BMI. I'm 5'9" and in between 170-175lbs and I got quite a bit of fat around my midsection that i've been trying to lose for the past few months. It sounds like you're doing great and keep up the good work!
Oh, and woton's right, cardio helps you lose weight faster and more efficiently than doing weight training.

you are only 17. take your weight off the easy way. play. play hard and all the time. going to the gym and lifting weights wont reduce weight. it wil be a gainer.
use your imagination for a while and concentrate on having some fun.
#1. ride bikes with friends (dont drive for a week-if possible)
#2. swim
#3. laugh- laugh alot and laugh hard (dont take life too seriously)
#4. add to list list at least 7 more fun things to do like these.
...then see what the scales read after a month or so.

How old are you? Did you recently turn 25? When men turn 25 their metabolism slows down. Also, it sounds like you've had ups and downs with weight loss including being anorexic. Anorexia screws up your metabolism. Finally, are you getting enough calories right now? If you eat too few calories your body will hold on to any possible nutrition it gets. And your metabolism will slow as well.

well you said you gave up the sugar candy and pop. now how about bread, and pasta, potatoes, these things a fattening. muscle weighs more that fat don't forget. I have workedout for years and the fastest I have ever lost weight was on a high protien low carb diet. but my diet wouldn't work for you seeing how you said you are a vegeterian. hang in there and have your thyroid check before you try to many things.

Having seen this I just have to share something because I spent many many years jumping from diet to diet without getting any real results until I saw Pams magic plan (i found it on google). It is without a doubt the most weight loss that I have ever had and I am still trim to this day.

Lifting weights doesn't make you lose fat. Cardio will - treadmill, bike, rowing machine. Cut down carbs as well. Eat fruit and vegetables and lean meat.
