Is it considered an abomination for us atheists/agnostics to use them?

I don't think Sai Baba (the Indian guy with the crazy afro on some cases of the Nag) cares. Hindus don't really worry much about that sort of thing in my experience, and I suspect he puffs a bit of the ganja himself...

Believe it or not, us Buddhists, Hindus, and many other faiths don't think like fundies. If you want to spit on a statue of the Buddha, that is fine with me. It doesn't affect me unless I'm the one who has to clean it off.
