Who says marriage is a wholly religious institution? I can go back in history almost 350 years and find documentation of the church handing over marriage duties to magistrates to keep the 'taint of sin off of the church'. If they voluntarily gave it up in the 1650's then why are they complaining now.

Doesn't look like too many Christians answered, huh?

I'm an atheist and I got married in a courthouse. Many Christian friends and family members attended and had no problem with the completely secular ceremony and totally godless legal union.

So far, no Christian has told me that I'm a sinner and going to hell after being informed that I was not married in a church and did not have a religious or otherwise spiritual marriage ceremony. Oddly enough, they're more concerned with same sex couples who just want the right to get married and get on with their lives... same as me and my husband (except we're opposite sex and "heathen"). I guess gay marriages are much worse than heathen marriages.

Christians are against anyone whom isn`t a christian, a heterosexual, a creationist, and a sheep. Sheep are very important to them for some reason! So to answer your question an atheist heterosexual most likely only ticks one box of those four, so yes they are against atheist heterosexual marriage.

I know many unbelievers who are against gays in general.

It is not only a question of religious belief.

Most of the adult humans on Earth-planet don't like gays.

---

And indeed, "atheism" is an abomination, given that it is a hollow concept that believers keep spreading onto unbelievers' head.

I think there's no problem with Heterosexual Atheists marrying gays. I see no problem there.

I love your question. Thank you.

But be careful. They may come after you next. (It's a joke, but dang, some of this right zealot christian insanity is getting way too into US governance.)

maybe they should take away the rights of atheists next.

oh wait, then that would infringe on the separation of church and state.

hm...what arguments are used against homosexuals to take their rights away? oh yea...god's word.

Dude, don't get them thinking about it. They may snap and go on a shooting rampage in the name of God.

If the church ever regained the secular power it had during the Inquisition, you can bet your booty atheists would burn. I'm not worried though. Christians are too occupied with shooting their own wounded to worry about me.

Well if heterosexual atheists aren't allowed to marry, then a lot of us are in for a smiting.
