I am interested in becoming a surrogate. Has anyone been one? Any advice? Has anyone considered it? Any facts to share?

Be prepared for a ton of paperwork, tests and questioning. If you are receiving any state/government help, have less then two kids or have no support system your only chance is to find someone on your own. Any big company that sets them up all look at the above as a few of the qualifiers. Out of 100 women who look into being a surrogate mother on 2 percent actually make it. I am hoping to be a surrogate for my sister in law in the next year or two. Good luck.

My sister in law was surrogate

There are two types

Gestational - Where the surrogate carries the fertilized egg of another couple
Traditional -Where the surrogate is artificially inseminated with the sperm of the father.

Each state has different laws regarding Surrogacy.
I’m pretty sure any or most facilities make prospective surrogates go through some consoling. It’s a big thing to carry a baby for 9motnths and give it up at the end. The surrogate in most case will develop a bond with the baby whether it is genetically hers or not.
Age range of a surrogate is 18 to 35
Most places require the surrogate to have had at least one successfully pregnancy.

I am currently under contract as a gestational surrogate. We will hopefully be doing our IVF (in-vetro fertilization) in the first week of November. My best advice to you is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!! There are lots of options such as gestational carrier vs. traditional carrier (as someone else explained), agency vs. independant, and then from there the list of agencies can go on forever!! Also, polish up on your patience, this is never something that moves quickly!! The ease inwhich you can become a surro also has alot to do with where you live as well. The laws are different in every state. The websites that were listed in the other response are wonderful places to gain knowledge. Good Luck!!
