I had one that just needed a new drive belt. It was VCR only. It would not keep enough tension on the drive pulleys and the tape would get messed up. I could take a pencil and sometimes could carefully remove the tape and then rewind it by hand back into the cassette.

Got first belt at an electronics store, cost $5.00 and the second one at a VCR repair store ,cost $1.00. I think I need to replace it again now as it messed up last week. I have had mine since 1994.
