I have a 9 year old, who is 4 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 128 pounds, need to know what daily calories should be for him to lose weight. He had surgery done on both legs in June 2005(doctors broke both legs(knock-kneed), cast, plates, screws). Then 2nd week November 2005, everything removed from legs, came home, 3 days later fell on left leg (broke thru screw hole), broke left femur(back to hospital). Plates, screws, and rod put in left leg. Had all removed June 2006, now is released to do anything. Also, on August 9, 2006 his grandfather died(was only male figure in his life/ his dad not in his life (not a good person), divorced for 5yrs. I started him back in boyscouts and when soccer starts up again he'll play. Any advice or help would be appreciated. THANK YOU!!! (Son living with mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister)

Wow that poor kid. There is no magical number of calories. I've found that just generally eating healthy foods in controlled portions will help people lose weight. When you count calories you take the joy out of eating. Good luck and I hope your son can keep his bones intact for awhile!

sounds like he has been through a lot laready, I feel sorry for the difficult time your family had to see. A safe approach would be for you to make a food diary for two weeks, calculate the calories for the most commonly consumed meals and then try to cut by 10-15 percent calories per meal. goal to lose a pound a week, slow and steady wins the race, the faster you try to lose more likely you are to gain more, good luck

listen. Promote healthy life style. The boyscouts are great at that (standing eagle here). Want him to lose some lbs than shut off that tv go out as a family for a walk to the park. Limit him to certian pleasures...Sure deseart is great but...you know. Promote healthy snacks. Carrots, celary, apples and oranges. Really wanna trick him..Put pickles in his lunch bag.(fyi skool lunches BAD no nutriation) Pickles are nearly 0 calories from brand to brand..But figure he's 14 he's still got alot of time for him to grow...So dont force it on him until he's 17 or so.. but show him a healthy lifestyle instead.

Healthy tips for losing weight fast

1. Lessen calorie intake by 250-500 per day by substituting most high calorie foods for low fat varieties

2. Keep this cut going for at least one week or until you reach a weight loss level that lasts more than 4 days, then reduce calories by a further 200 per day.

3. Take high quality protein with mainly meals or if possible combine the low fat plant foods together at each meal.

4. Begin a standard weight-training program to keep muscle and boost metabolism.

5. Do aerobic activities on the days in-between the weights sessions to help burn fat directly.

6. Drink plenty of water all day to keep energy levels.

7. Lessen sodium eating by preparing meals using fresh, natural and healthy ingredients.

8. Gently raise the intensity level of the weights program forcing the body to hold onto muscle as calorie intake is lowered gradually over time.

9. Never go below 1500 calories per day, simply exercise more often when if this target is reached.
