You might want to read the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 6:1-4 This speaks directly to your situation.
I know your intentions were honorable and I believe God knows too. However, there is a verse about not letting your left hand know what your right hand is doing when you are "giving" or doing a good deed for the Lord.
It is important to remain humble and not pronounce your own reward, particularly in the eyes of unbelievers as they will not understand and might think that you were only helping as an "Investment" for your own "ten fold gain".
Do you see what I am getting at here? God says that those who boast about their good deeds here on earth have already received their reward (An applause from men) and there is no reward for them in heaven after that.
So just do your sweet thing and remain quiet about it and keep it between you and your Heavenly Father who loves you dearly, even when you make a mistake. :)
You did a good thing helping her. You really did. God will correct anything that might have been misunderstood in her eyes because I believe from what you said that your intentions were good.

Why did you have to say you would get it back ten fold. Why didn't you just say, no thanks, I wanted to do it, my treat. Then you would have done something nice AND made someone feel good, and THAT would've come back ten fold.
I have a friend that always has to throw something like that in, everytime she does something nice, like she's bragging that she's doing good deeds. And it ALWAYS makes her come across as being more interested in doing good for what she will get out of it down the road.
And don't misunderstand, I am a Christian, and I completely understand what you are saying, it just is one of my little pet peeves when people can't simply do something nice to make someone feel good, but instead they have to tell the person why they are doing the good deed.
Honestly, if someone did something for me and I tried to reciprocate in some way, or offer thanks to them (which is what she was doing by the way) and that person bascially said "Oh, I did it for what I'm going to get out of it (which is what you were doing by the way)" then I would think you were more interested in you instead of me, and I would walk away feeling worse than if you had not helped me in the first place.
I don't think that is doing good.
Of course, that's just me. I mean, since you asked and all.

Just keep doing the "church talk"....she's starting to get it.
When I tell people I'll get it back 10 fold, they have no clue what I'm talking about, and that's okay. I only say it if they won't accept the gift and i'm trying to talk them into it. They are usually the ones that need it more than me.
What you did, you didn't do for HER, in the grand scheme of things you did it for God. You showed her God's love. Keep it up!

"I looked at it as doing something for someone and being blessed to do so and knowing that I will be blessed back for doing this favor for her. " that' d be interpreted as religious. I'd understand that it'd be more karma (not that I believe in that religion either), you know? do good and good will happen, but maybe that lady thought of it as religious.

As a truck driver, on the road there are people from time to time who ask for a 'helping hand' and asked for my address so they can repay me. I tell them that the all I'm doing is making a loan to Jesus and experience tells me that Jesus always pays me back in a timely manner with interest. And it is sometimes uncanny how he does it.

We are saved by faith, not works: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from youselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do " (Eph. 2:8,9).
IF we boast about doing something good.....what's the point? your intentions were not truly to help them....you were anticipating the 10-fold return...
Help someone because it's the right thing to do....do not expect a reward...

People who don't understand Christ also don't believe that we think for ourselves, that we are brainwashed and follow a book like we are robots. They think we are foolish and childish. But don't let it stop you from doing what is good in the eyes of the Lord.

It sounds like she comes from a family that is in the process of praying her into the Kingdom. If I were you I would join them in a prayer of agreement.

Sometimes people get tired of everything being "God-bless-you" stuff. Christians would be better "witnesses" if they didn't use every little thing to get their message across, such as gas money.
