And then a reception afterward? This seems kind of late in the evening to me.

This is completely normal for people who have family traveling from all over. 7PM on a Saturday is a great time for a wedding because most of your family and friends can find the time to be there.

The only real hitch is discovering if your pastor is willing to perform a wedding at this time. Ours was more than happy to accommodate.

It really depends on where you live and what time of year you are getting married. In the summer, it is not dark at the time. We were able to have outdoor pictures. Ours was not a candlelight ceremony, it was still day time.

My wedding was at 6:30 on 08/25 with our reception following immediately.
Ours was a formal event without children as well.

I've been to a church wedding that started at 6 or 7, with a reception after, yes.

Late night events are usually formal events without kids. Maybe that's how they made their decision.

Sure, people often have evening weddings. They are romantic and usually have many candles lighting the areas. Then the party starts. Plus, who wants to give up a saturday afternoon for a dang wedding. Rather go to one at night, and then have one hell of a party.

Thats a nice way to do it. I hate when the wedding is in the morning and then you have several hours inbetween until the reception, especially when you are all dressed up.

Yes, I've heard of it. The reception is going to be short, hopefully with just champagne and cake.

My best friend is getting married next month at 6pm in church... with a full meal afterward.

She wanted a formal wedding, and you cannot have ultra formal until after 5pm.

Just attended one this weekend. It is kind of late, don't cound on them serving food. A bonus is that you don't have to hang out all day with other strangers all dressed up.
