Contacts are usually used when you need to wear glasses full time. While reading glasses as the name implies, are only used when reading.
So if you only need glasses for reading, you would opt for reading glasses. But if you need glasses full time you could go for contacts. But remember some people find contacts uncomfortable.
Some people go for contacts just because they feel that glasses aren't flattering, but don't think that way.

Reading Glass and Contact Lenses.

What is your age ? What is your problem ? Are you have short sight? Generally before the age of say 40 it is prescribed for short sight mostly and for long sight seldom. A qualified ophthalmologist will test your eyes and give prescription mentioning your power of eye(s) then you can order for a glass. This is prescribed for constant use.

This can be either ordinary lensess with frame and will be fitted on your frame or contact lense which is be fitted on eye-balls.

Reading glasses are prescribed only at the age of 40 or so when people have difficulty in reading and it is for occasional use.

Any way consult an ophthalmologist

"Reading" glasses help your near or short vision (farsightedness) ONLY; they allow you to see better close up and are not in physical contact with your eye. Reading glasses are not just for "old" or over 40 people. It is an age related process where near vision is blurred making it hard to see close-up, and it happens to all people eventually. Reading glasses are often prescribed to children, teens, and those under 40. I'm sure you have seen people with glasses that make their eyes look very big or magnified, these are reading glasses.

Contact Lens help your near or far vision (farsightedness or nearsightedness), and depending on the type (hard, gas-permeable, soft), and power, may offer greater optical acuity than comparable glasses. Certain factors may exclude you as a candidate for contact lens..

I find soft contacts improve my appearance becausE I have a high minus Rx (meaning thick glasses) and are comfortable for all day wear. When I get the correct power that is properly fitted, I find my vision is better than with glasses. I sometimes forget they are in and makes me feel like I see that way normally!

It depends on your needs. Some people may gain better visual acuity from or the other. Sometimes contact lenses may not be available in your Rx. It all boils down to the shape of your eyeball and how it affects your vision, and it can go either way for any person.
