First of all a Mexican is not a race in itself. A true Mexican is a mixture or "mestizo" which means mixture of the Spaniards that came to conquer the area and the native Americans, Aztecs etc. They mixed and created what we know as the Mexican. So, to clarify, your statement is only part right. The part of Mexicans that were here first was the ancestors from the Native Americans. The other part came from Europe. If you notice or if you've ever traveled through Mexico, the darker skinned they are the more Native American ancestry they have. Others, who are often more fare have more European, Spanish blood in them. And, unfortunately, there is a clear separation of class between the two in Mexico. The Mexicans who we see in the US are usually those that are in the lower socioeconomic classes looking for a better life. They are not so different than Americans in many parts of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The only difference is that in NM many of the people there in the northern part of the state have more of a purer Spanish blood in them and less Native American blood. So in essence you too are a Mestizo.

they were ere first but America got the land. It's really f-cked up that Americans are so anti-immigration when these were the people who lived there originally anyway.

To: LadyChristmas, I am wondering if you are joking and being sarcastic, do you really not know that California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada were all a part of mexico?

To the person who gave me the thumbs down: check this map: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/00/Map_of_Mexico_1847.jpg

One more thing: to the blockheads who say "we are all from Africa" (in an attempt to insinuate that the Mexicans have no right to be there even though they had the territory before America did) then why not give America away to England since we have no more right to it than the Mexicans since we weren't here first either? This logic does not hold any water and seems to justify the idea that it is morally ok for stronger nations to conquer other peoples land and throw them out.

To the people with the "it was Native American land before it was Mexican", that is an issue between the currently surviving native American people of the Southern USA and the (current descendents of Spanish Native American) Mexicans, THIS ISSUE is between the Mexicans and the USA.

And lastly to the guy who said that the original native americans were europeans who came here 20,000 years ago, this is still hotly debated, and even if it is true that native americans are part european, it still does not mean they are any less native american and any less "having been there for 20,000 years" (clearly an amount of time to deem the land "theirs", not the modern european conquerors). We are all African, does this mean Africa deserves the rights to all countries in the world? If Africa were armed with nukes, would it be morally justifiable to let them take over the world, since they were the original people to spread out and conquer the earth? This is obviously flawed logic.

Mexicans were not here first the Indians were, the Spaniard conquered the Mexicans and moved north, so they stold the land also from the Indians, then they lost it to us through war and through payment they signed away the land they stoled from the Indians. In order for something to be yours you have to posses it or occupy it, their were a few Mexicans here but most of the population was in Mexico. The Mexicans that were here also fought for Independence from Mexico, at that time Santa Anna was a dictator and ruthless. (Tajano's) I think that is how you spell it, also fought at the Alamo with the Americans. Mexicans are from the Aztec Indians not American Indians, Aztecs settled in the valley of Mexico in 1200 AD and built their empire. The Spaniards came and destroyed their empire, and mingled with the natives.

Actually, as a native American, you should know that the indigenous tribes of the southwest were not Mexican, Aztec, Mayan, etc. They were the Hopi, Pueblo, Tigua, Navajo, and others. Were it not for the Spanish invasion, Mexico would never have had control at all of the Southwest. So let's leave this foolish argument out, the TRUE natives of this land have no desire to share this land with criminal law breakers who have their history screwed up.

Brother, don't you realize that in the 1830's and 1840's native tribes like the Comanche and Apache were basically at war with Mexico and the U.S.? It's wasn't called "The Wild West" for nothing. Almost like Mongol horsemen, the braves would raid towns in the region indiscriminately, and Mexico got the worst of it. Every person has an ancestor that killed one of their other ancestors, somewhere down their line of descent, but hostilities of the past are meaningless; all that matters is that people alive today should find a way to live in harmony.

so you think we should just give it all back. That makes a lot of sense. The people today must pay for the mistakes of hundreds of years ago. No the mexicans do not have a legal right to the land- after the mexican american war it was purchased from mexico. that there would be like saying we needed to give the louisiana purchase back to France. and then the colonies back to england.

No the Mexicans were not here first only the Indian tribes. If you really knew history on this subject you would know that at one time there was no breed called Mexican. Before the white man there was the Spanish and before them there was only different tribes of Indians. The Mexicans came from the Spaniard's breeding with what ever tribe of Indian was in that region at that time and was convenient for them to have their way with.

Yes your are right and i've been telling people that for years all you have to do is study the web site that gives many of the details of the Mexican American War ( 1846--1848) where the U S invaded Mexico under the Manifest Destiney term that means we have a right to it if we want it/// The land that was taken is noe California,Arizona,New Mexico,Texas, and part of Louisanna so whats the big deal with immigrants this was their land to begin with and after the war the U S gave the mexican goverment $15,000,000.00 and thats why i dont mind them comming here ,,,, they make better citizens than some thats been here all their life /////////

They were not Mexicans, they were Native Americans, like you. The modern day Mexicans are a mix of those natives and the Spanish. And besides, your way of thinking would mean that even the Spanish should have left and Mexico never would have been.

Mexicans were not the first ones here. They were all native americans before columbus came over. THose that were in Mexico and the lands southward were conquered by the spanish and forced to learn there language and religion. Those in the north had a bit of a different treatment but I dare not venture into that. Long story short this land belonged and still belongs to the REAL americans, not anybody of emigrant descent.
