Yes you can. Actually, you can take 2 peppermint candy cans, break about an inch off the straight ends, then lay them touching to resemble a heart. Bake at about 300ºF for 7-10 min, depending upon your oven. Hang from a ribbon to decorate for Valanetine's Day.
I've also made cookies called "Stained Glass Cookies." My kids love to help. It's basically sugar cookies w/ cut-outs. In the cut-outs, you put small chunks of chopped, clear hard candies (like Jolly Rancher). THey melt while hte cookie bakes, Let sit to harden, then cool on a cookie sheet. It's great fun.

yup i know how! thats easy.
break the canes up into smaller pieces
put water in a pot to boil
jus enough to cover the canes
when it boils add the canes
boil till thick and syrupy
(just like meltin sugar)

put it in a pan on the stove, on medium, stir occasionally when it melts down- a solid can always turn in to a liquid because of boiling point

Occasionally I put the chocolate peppermints from restaurants in my coffee. They melt and make it yummy!

yes you melt it like sugar.. better still ,melt some butter and caramelize it.. it'll taste gooey and yummy, like warm honey!!
