It drives me nuts! He'll just make this licking or slurping noises for no reason (that I can tell) and the noise is so annoying. Why is he doing this? How can I get him to stop? I've tried scolding him, but he keeps on doing it. He doesn't do it constantly, but enough to bug the heck out of me! PS- He's a lab-mix and about 2 years old.

He's been neutered since he was 6 months old and he's not licking a particular area. Just making noise!

Well certainly dont put him to sleep like some crazy person replied... go to the vet if he's been doing it for a while/keeps doing it, it may be some sort of weird nervous habit, bored habit, or something completely different. But you're probably not the first with a dog making that noise to come to the vet about it, so may as well ask your vet. Better safe than sorry, anyhow.

Him being a male dog, are you referring to him slurping his genitals? Some male dogs react as male humans do when they discover their gonads, and devote a lot of time to that area. He sounds about the right age for that to kick in. We have one dog that indulges himself rather often, but we run a shelter and none of our critters are normal, so what the heck.

However, if you're in a social setting, it can be embarrassing. The only thing that will slow it down is for him to be neutered, but it still may not solve his fascination with himself.

If you are not referring to self-stimulation, then this guy has a skin infection or fleas. The slurping and licking is an attempt to either get a flea, or make the itch stop itching. This is a problem you have to solve. You're the person, he's the dog. The snorting is driving you mad, you're yelling at him, everyone's unhappy.

In this case, if you're already doing flea preventive, then he may have picked up a skin infection or sarcoptic mange, which is only going to get worse. Either way, haul him to a vet. Lab mixes are wonderful dogs, so try to help both of you enjoy each other a little more :-) Good luck to you.

would not sound like something significant. What form of breed is he? If he's short nosed then he ought to be "noisily snoring" via fact the trachea is snubbed too, inflicting this noise.... very like an English Bulldog or Pug. Your new domestic dog would desire to bypass see the Vet although. All domestic dogs are succeptable to worms, fleas, rabies, and so on. some worms may even bypass from the canine to human. subsequently i'd recommend which you notice a Vet purely to get him all of his photographs.

Your dog is probably not aware of the concept of "sound = annoying" on any level that scolding him will do any good.

Some dogs do undertand words - outside, sit, treat, good... but they usually don't have the comprehension necessary to grasp requests or commands such as, "Stop making that licky-slurpy noise."
