Suggestions on when it's a good time to say good bye to the binky and how do I go about it doing it? My son is two and mostly uses it at bedtime, but sometimes during the day as well. At what age did your children say goodbye to there's?

you should be ridding him of the binkie now.

Tell him the binkie fairy needs binkies for the newborns and other babies out there. Together--gather all the binkies up in a bag. Tie them to a tree out side or sit them somewhere out side some evening. Tell him the binkie fairy will bring him something for the binkies. A gift. (get him a gift) The next morning, take him out to see what the binkie fairy got for him. Make sure you did something with the binkies. He will be so excited and also pleased with himself that he has helped other babies who need those binkies.

My son is almost 14 months and still uses one from time to time. I'm still struggling with the timing and wonder when I should take it away (it's a savior sometimes... and he's still teething badly). I guess 2 years should be the limit... though sooner if you work up the nerve!
I've heard that telling your kid that the Binky fairy needs binkies for babies in need... is a good way to have them offer it up (The Supernanny uses this method in her shows... and it looks like a winner). You tell them that there are small babies that don't have binkies and the fairy knows that your son has some... and would love for him to help these babies out. You can also tell him that the binky fairy will leave him a special gift for giving all his binkies away. Get a gift bag, have your son put all his binkies in there (go on a hunt to find them all)... and then have your son take the bag outside and hang it on a tree branch. Later you replace the contents of the bag with something really special for your son. I will definitely try this trick (when I finally work up the nerve).

We got rid of the binkie around 2.5 years. At frist we told him that he could only have it in bed so if he wanted it he had to go and sit in his bed. That cut down on daytime use because what kid wants to sit in his bed when he could be playing?

Then we would just sort of take it away. If he asked for it we gave it to him but we didn't offer it. After a while he stopped asking.

good luck!

Mine were around two. They only got it at bedtime. And I tried not to let them have it any other time. Then I just took them all away. I did keep one in the cabinet just in case, but I never had to use it. The first night was not fun. The second was better and by the third, it was all good.

My son was 4! Yes, really late. On day it went missing- as it often does. He decided that the" wood fairies must have taken it and they must need it more " (becuse he was playing in the woods that day!) I was freaked that he would never sleep that night but there was no problem at all! Maybe a similar thing would work with your son. It really affected his teeth using it that long. He's ten and has a spacer and will probably need braces. :(

Two is too old by any standards to be using a binkie...get rid of it asap, it can affect his teeth if you don't. I took my children's at six months, fortunately, they were never that into it anyway.

my kids never "needed" a blanket or anything, but they did take a pacifier. At about 1 year for all of them, we decided that they didnt need it any more and just took it and tossed it. They were kinda crabby and unhappy for a few nights, and they they didnt seem to realize that it was gone. As long as you take it away and just get rid of it, you cant decide to give it back just because you feel bad. Its a bigger pain for you having to listen to them be upset, than it is for them.
