Goin' old school...

But on a serious note, if god is omnipotent, then why does he suffer who his followers would describe as foolish (like me)

Unless he decides to make a physical apperance, there is nothing anyone can say or do that will change my mind about the non-existance of a god.

Therefore, according to some of these lovely emails I've been getting recently, I am doomed to hell. So why does he allow me to continue to live?

This question is not meant to be in jest. I am curious what christians think about my statements.

k-rad, if I understand your response, then man can not comprehend an omnipotent god.

Then what are all them preachers talking about on Sunday. They claimed to tell me what god wants for me.

This one is for those who quote the bible.

The bible is a human-edited, socially-written document. Therefore, how can you look at it as doctrine?

creeklops, that's why I sometimes ask questions the way I do. I like to mix it up a bit and get theists and atheists to explain things from a different angle...

I'm liking the responses so far, no one has decided to have god smote me yet...

James S - You are incorrect. I know there is no god. No proof = No god simple as that.

However, if god decided to appear and it can be proven that he is god. Then my hypothesis is proven invalid and I'm going to church (whichever one god would say is the right one)

You raise some good points, and I respect that. Just bear in mind that the way you see things now may not be the way you see things your entire life. Something may happen tomorrow that could change your entire perspective. There are a lot of believers that can look back to a time in their life when they were sure nothing could convince them God existed.

And as far as allowing you to "continue to live", why wouldn't He?

Unless he decides to make a physical apperance, there is nothing anyone can say or do that will change my mind about the non-existance of a god. Do you not consider this a tad selfish or arrogant? I feel a bit selfish taking up too much of a policeman's or CEO's time, so asking the Creator of the universe to come on down in a way that works particularly for me cuz, you know, I'm picky about how I'm gonna accept Him and all seems a bit pretentious imo. It's not like He didn't leave anything around as evidence...

Therefore, according to some of these lovely emails I've been getting recently, I am doomed to hell. Only God can judge your salvation, so I'd ignore the emails if I were you.

So why does he allow me to continue to live? Because apparently, you still have a reason to be alive.

"Unless he decides to make a physical apperance, there is nothing anyone can say or do that will change my mind about the non-existance of a god."

If God made a physical appearance tomorrow it would not convince you of anything.

So what if he descends from the sky performs miracles? He may just be an alien from another planet trying to yank humanity's chain. And according to the laws of probability and cosmology, there are A LOT of advanced alien civilizations out there who are millions of years ahead of us and who would have no problem pulling off something like that.

BUT, what if you died tomorrow and went to heaven and lived there for a million years? How would you know your brain wasn't just plugged into a Matrix, Mr. Duracell?

All I'm saying is, you have chosen to believe in the concept of God in such a way so that there is no possibility of your ever accepting any evidences of his existence, no matter what. And that's pretty closed-minded.

"However, if god decided to appear and it can be proven that he is god. Then my hypothesis is proven invalid and I'm going to church"

You keep saying that God needs to prove he exists. And yet, you haven't been able to name anything that he can do specifically that would prove his existence to you. I would invite you to name a specific action he could take that would prove his existence to you. Otherwise, your hypothesis about there being no god is unfalsifiable (in other words, you set up your hypothesis in such a way so that no observations could falsify it). This makes your hypothesis very unscientific.

The difference between you and the theists you are debating with is that the theists admit that their claims are non-falsifiable. You do not.

"I know there is no god. No proof = No god simple as that."

Or is it? If you're a typical atheist you probably believe in dark matter, gravitational singularities, and extra terrestrial civilizations. Science has no proof of any of these things, and yet you would have a hard time convincing other atheists that these things do not exist (although I would like to see you try).

Here you are on a tiny planet in a small solar system in a minor arm on an insignificant galaxy in a vast universe. And you claim that there is no god because he hasn't bowed to your individual wishes and made a personal appearance to you on your dust-speck of a planet. Where's the logic in that?

God can make a rock so big that he can't lift it if He says He won't. Well, when His disciples asked Jesus a similar question He told them this parable about the wheat and tares growing up together until the harvest. The harvest, He said, is the end of the world when all shall be judged. The wheat are those who are righteous and will be separated fro the tares who are the wicked.
My question to you is, if you don't believe in God, then why do you want to know all these things about Him? Perhaps you are not as far away from God as you think you are. I know He still loves you, no matter what you think about Him.

this question is from an old religious riddle. The riddle is going as such: Why could god create a rock that any1 could desire to lift, yet that god replaced into no longer able to enhance? the respond is actual rather ordinary: The rock replaced into no longer created to be lifted; 'possibly' the rock replaced into create for another objective. Lifting it may maximum probably then be executed in ineffective. subsequently god could purely be doing 'god' a great favour, by making it impossible for god to enhance this kind of rock. Sneaky bastard this god character is huh? ;)

God loves everyman and woman, but it is the choice of that person to accept his Son Jesus Christ as our savior. The reason why God does not and will not make a physical appearance is because he already did 2000yrs ago,and the reason why he allows you to live is found in the Bible in (John 3:16-17).you should read it.

God also gave us free will. That is he wants us to love and serve him freely...that is the only way he gains back your soul for all eternity, if not then you choose hell over heaven....your choice...think carefully...he did make a physical appearance...about 2000 years ago....and there was a guy then who said the same thing as you...Thomas...and he was told "happy are those who have not seen but yet believe"

In regards to your query about "why does he allow m eto continue to live"...

According to Christianity the nature of God is that of true love and freedom of choice. On the flip side the accusation Satan made against God was that he was not fair and God's way could not be followed.

In order for God's love to be complete and in so illustrate to the universe His fairness He must allow you the freedome to choose your own path. No matter how much God may want something different for someone's life He will not force Himself upon them, but rather allow them to make decisions for themself and ultimately decide their own fate.

Unfortunately often times with "Christians" their actions do not embody what their God's love does. Often times people will judge others and attempt to impose their beliefs on them instead of loving people no matter how they choose to live their lives.

TO YOUR TOPIC QUESTION:

illogical question, your are putting a unlimited God into mans limited mind. We cannot comprehend such power. That is a strawman Fallacy I believe and therfore invalid

I think this quote is the most appropriate here: "It is you who say that I am."

If you know why Jesus said that, then you will know the answer to this question, and perhaps others you may have about God.
