I consistently study hard and understand the material before taking an in-class test. I am always well-rested and reasonably confident before the test. Yet, somehow, I consistently make stupid mistakes and end up flunking. Even when I go back and check my answers, I usually get them wrong. If I'm prepared, thorough, confident, and rested for a test, why am I having so much trouble?

I'm never nervous for a test-- I try to approach it calmly and as casually as within reason.

And no, I don't have any learning disorders. My teacher is very clear on what she wants, it's Algebra, and my studying/homework always goes well. I don't have a orblem with the principles or algebraic things; I end up with off-the-wall answers such as (-2x)to the fourth=4xsquared

Maybe you're "second guessing" yourself or "over-thinking" the problems. You might be reading too much into the questions, thinking every question is a trick question.

Next time you take a test just go with your first answer and move on to the next question. Don't allow yourself to go back and change an answer unless you are 100% positive that your first answer is wrong.

Same things happen to me sister! I think that if you fail, you want to study more. I suggest getting breaks in between studying. Even do some reading or relaxing music for a while. Studying on the before the test day is ok as long as it's not too late, you know what I'm sayin?

When you are studying and studying and studying...none of that information really sinks into the brain. It is just like a chore. You need to set up a time where you can study. Take 10 minute breaks. Have snacks. If you over analyze things and waste time doing things that are wrong then your grade will slip. Like someone said before, just do the opposite. Good luck!

You may read a lot, but not internalizing it. Try to do more mock tests. Answer study guide questions instead of reading. You need to study differently. It's not just the # of hours that you put in. Your student advisor may be able to help.

Depends on what type of tests you are taking. Do you understand what the teacher is really looking for? Some people become intimidated by the test. Also, have you been tested for dyslexia?

I think that you should approach a caring teacher with your problem. Tell the teacher how long you studied and what you did to study. Tell him or her about the stupid mistakes. Tell your teacher that you want to get to the bottom of this and ask your teacher if she/he can help you study and see if it affects your grade.

Possibly try doing it the opposite way. Maybe you are studying too hard and concentrating too much on your test that you aren't concentrating enough on answering them correctly.

You are like me you are your own worse enimy. The best thing to go is to relax, drink some cool water. And don't over think the question.
