Annual rainfall for the entire world is approximately 4,750 x 10 6 acre feet per year. The estimated amount of useable groundwater available is 47,500 x 10 6 acre feet. As you can see, is the amount of groundwater available is 10 times greater than annual rainfall. If you do the math you can see that if groundwater water was depleted it would take many many years for this resource to be restored. But then you may ask, well what about the ocean water. Just take the salt out, right? Well, desalination is very expensive and not very practical. For every 200 gallons of saltwater that is processed during the removal of salt, it will produce only 50 gallons of fresh water and 150 gallons of brine that needs to be disposed of. Ok, so what do you do with the salt water... dump it back in the ocean, right? No, think of the Dead Sea. Why do they call it the Dead Sea? Because it is too salty for anything to survive.

Spend some time on a desert. All life needs water, when there is a limited amount available it limits the amount of life.

did you watch Oprah today?! It's importaint because most of our water used goes back out into the ocean... we need to recycle it (aka treat it) before it goes back out there... you want dead fish and polluted oceans?
