Sixteen with an oral fixation?

Question

I'm sixteen years old and in high school, and I continue to find myself loving to use my mouth. I am constantly running my tongue around inside my mouth over my teeth and gums, and I absolutely love to eat snacks like pretzels and goldfish all the time when working on homework and stuff. At school, I always find myself putting my pens around my lips, and my tongue. I don't bite things very much (except for my nails, which I bite all the time), but I certainly do love playing with things and my mouth.

I just love my mouth. Is this a normal behavior for somebody my age?

Definitely not interested in getting a tongue piercing.

And most of the things I put in my mouth are my own, such as my pens.

And I *do* definitely eat other food, so don't worry about that.

Total Freudian case, ask your mom if when you were little, I mean baby little, if she wouldn't let you suck on your thumb. You might have been stuck on this stage because you were interrupted while you were going through it or just liked it too much.

Derek, my son, you are going to spend a lot of time and money in a dental chair because the only thing you are eating that is not hard and resistant is the gold fish. By the way, can you tell us what a gold fish tastes like and if you bake, fry or grill it. And how many goldfish does it take to satiate you? There is another downside, however and that is that as you become an adult you will want to put other things in your mouth that are less safe and hygienic. Oh, and when the urge to get a tongue piercing comes along, read a question currently posted with all the warning about how bad it can get. Bon apetite!

Sounds like you are looking for security - it is a nervous disorder -like babies sucking their thumb.
If you don't mind consuming all the germs, bacteria, grime, faeces, urine, mucus, ear wax and dead skin cells lying around on each of the everyday objects you are putting in your mouth, then continue doing it - if that's what makes you feel better.

I can't see anything wrong with what your doing! It is perfectly normal. But I think your going to get a lot of "silly/foolish answers.

YES, just don't let it get you in trouble, there is syphlis,crabs,herpes,and other sexual diseases out there ,and you can get oral diseases out their too;be careful how you use your MOUTH...people might get the wrong impression
