Gossip is like judging people in my opinion, which God tells us in the Bible not to do. He says "Judge not, lest you be judged".
I had problems with this and still do sometimes. I continually talked about my Son-in-law after my daughter passed away. A friend brought it to my attention one day and I thank her for that. Then I also found the following scripture which spoke to me.
Psalm 141 3
3) Lord, place a guard at my mouth, a sentry at the door of my lips.

Gossip is another form of lying as you do not know if it is true or not unless you witnessed it yourself.

It leads to bitterness and suspicions that have no basis in truth, in essence, it's creating an atmosphere of lying about someone and making statements without all the facts.
