The rumors about carnival being a floating frat house are outdated. Nowadays, carnival caters to families and couples just like royal. There are a few pros and cons to each mass market line, however all in all the product is pretty similar. CCL usually has bigger rooms and the new bedding system cannot be beat. CCL has a bit more activity around the pool area and the ships have waterslides which are a blast. In my opinion CCL also has the best food. RCCL is perhaps a half step more upscale and refined. The larger ships also have things such as rock climbing walls and some even have ice skating on them. NCL has something called freestyle dining where you don't have assigned seating times nor table mates. Some people love this ( I do) and some hate it. Also NCL allows you to stay in your cabin on the last morning until your tag color is called to leave the ship. That is a pretty big plus. With NCL, the newer ships are much better than the older ships. As far as partying, number of kids and collage age people, it really depends more on when you cruise and the length of the cruise than it does which cruise line. I just got off of a 5 day carnival cruise 3 days ago and only saw about 20 kids on the entire ship and saw almost no one too drunk. If you cruise during collage spring break, you get alot of drunk collage kids, if you cruise on holidays or the summer you get alot of kids. Also, longer cruises tend to have older demographics. When I choose my cruises, I go by price and schedule, too me the lines are much more similar than they are different.

I have been on two Royal Caribbean Cruises and one Princess Cruise . I am going on the Carnival Conquest in four weeks. I am a little leery about the carnival cruise because I have heard bad things, and I loved Royal Caribbean both times. (I went on the Voyager when it first came out and the Rhapsody when it was 5 years old) Let me know what you find out, and if you want to know how my cruise went, e-mail me slcpet@sbcglobal.net I am going on October 22nd. Oh, and by the way, I went on the Caribbean Princess too and didn't really care for it. The room was nice, but I thought the food and service was sub par. I think when the tipping is charged per day instead of at the end, the employees know they are getting tipped either way. I think Princess and Carnival are owned by the same company, and Carnival does their tips like Princess. Also, I found on Princess they charged for a lot more little things, like ice cream for example. I was never charged for ice cream on Royal Caribbean. Sorry for babbling! Hope some of this helped!

I've been on many cruises and for me, I don't really care which cruise line I take. I take a cruise depending on which ports of call the ship goes to. Between Royal Caribbean and Carnival though, I like the places Royal Caribbean goes to better.

As Kingsgirl has already stated, Carnival is definitely more of a party ship and Royal Caribbean the 30+ crowd. We've been on both, enjoyed both. Just came back 2 weeks ago from an RC cruise. One thing I noticed, RC is very strict about the life boat drill. They made us stay at the muster station until Everyone was at their assigned station. Okay by me, especially since we were sailing during hurricane season.

I have been on about a dozen cruisies with RC, NCL, Princess and Celebrity and what I hear all the time is that Carnival is a nice line but a cut below what you get on the others. Plus, if you are in that age group where you want a 24/7 party and plenty of noise go Carnival, but other wise stay away from it. I personally will never even try Carnival.

I've been on both and I had more fun on Carnival. It's a good cruise line and the food was great. Royal Caribbean is great for a romantic cruise with your sweetie but Carnival really is fun. The rooms are bigger, and the beds are just the best!

It depends what you're looking for. Carnival is tagged "The Fun Ships" b/c they are the ships that have the heavier partying and so attract the younger 20's crowd and families.
Royal Caribbean on the other hand while still fun in it's own respect, generally has the older crowd of 30 + and very few if any kids on board their ships.
Just depends what you want! Party or less party!

I have never been on Royal Caribbean but have been on 3 Carnival cruises and when consulting with other people cruising they will tell you the same thing...once you go carnival you will never go back to another line, ever! Carnival has great food, great people and tons of fun stuff to do, I wouldn't reccomend any other line.
