which cruise would a choice for a 14 yr old? i heard carnival is good for adults, but not so much for teens and younger kids. I would like anything fun, lively, and something i personally can enjoy, rather than just the grownups. Are there any cruises you would recommend?

I personally think Royal Caribbean has the best to offer every age group. There are dedicated teen facilities and activity programs.

I would suggest Disney Cruise Line. Yes, people may think that Disney is too immature for a 14 year old, however, they have the kids club where they will meet many new friends. While your 14 year old is off having fun with their new friends you can enjoy the adult pool. There are also many activities to enjoy together like towel folding and cake decorating. There are current movies on the ship throughout the days and there are Disney stage shows in the evenings which are spectacular. Yes, there are characters cruising around the ship during your stay, and some may think this as juvenile, but it is so much fun. Also, I have not been on any other ship but what I have heard is that Disney has the privacy curtain in their rooms so that you can have a bit of privacy, other ships do not have this.

Whatever you choose, I am sure you are going to enjoy it. Happy Cruising!!

Carnival is what we use as a family vacation and my 2 boys have a blast. they is a club just for teen as well as joining in with some of the other adult activities, like the animal towel folding class, that is great just for a laugh too, my 12 yr old loved it and was faster than some of the adults.
in the end it will be timing, if you go when school is on expect fewer teen to be there.

As a Cruise Consultant, I recently went on the Carnival Glory which is a fabulous ship that sails out of Port Canaveral, FL. They have a club that caters to teens, and it has video games, music, and all the things that teens love. Disney is also a great choice, and I do recommend them as well. Norwegian is fabulous because of their "Freestyle Dining". There are a lot of options out there. If you want more information, contact a travel agent.

I have been on more than a dozen cruises with several cruise lines. Some may suggest that Carnival and Disney are the best lines for people with kids. BUT, I disagre because at age 14 your kid is too young to partake of the partying on Carnival and my bet is that he/she would not be in awe of Disney characters on ship.

Most cruise lines have programs and staffs specifically for kids and sperate programs for teens. If you go to the web sites for Princess, and NCL you will see specific mentions of their programs for kids. I have been on NCL ships and seen that they have seperate areas just for kids to have fun and these are supervised by a ship staff person.

Another important factor to consider is, cruises going to the Caribbean tend to have more young folks and fun things for them than those going to Alaska, Panama, or South America. People who go to the Caribbean are looking for fun things like beaches, jet skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, parasailing, and a lot of other activities related to water and beaches. On the other hand, people who go to Alaska, Panama, the Mediterranean, etc., are looking for cultural and historic activities. These cruisers tend to be the older people (40+). That does not mean these cruises are dull, it just means that the passengers are more mature and reserved. You will find the 40+ crowd in the bars and disco and having as good a time as the youngsters, but you may not hear them across the room or deck.

My recommendation is to pick a cruise line like Royal Caribbean or Princess and take a cruise to the Caribbean. One option is the Eastern Caribbean itinerary which typically goes to St Thomas (great for shopping), St Martin, and then has a stop at a private insland (many cruise lines have these private islands) for an all day beach party. Or, take a western Caribbean cruise which typically has Grand Cayman (great for beach), Cozumel (good for snorkle and scuba) and Ocho Rios (or a Jamacian stop) and maybe Key West.

Again, go to the cruise line web sites and look at the tours offered in port stops to see what you would like to do.

Princess is good. They have this teen group thing where they do games, and all sorts of stuff. I really enjoyed it when I was on it 6 years ago. Infact, I met a girl and we became good friends. I still talk to her occationally today. (I went on the Grand Princess...very nice ship)

Other cool things she/he will like:

Putt putt (miniture golf), arcade, teen clubs, 4 swimming pools, shopping on the ship, etc.

I would suggest NCL because they have a teen club for younger adults. They have a certain part of the ship reserved for that club too.

Disney for sure. You can see your child as much or as little as you want to. They have special areas for teens and lots of stuff to keep them busy. The movie theatre and shows are great too.
