The Libertarians are the only conservative (fiscally, socially) party of any number at this point. It never ceases to amaze me that Republicans consider themselves conservative.

Yes. It isn't what I bought into 30 years ago. Make no mistake, I fell for the sales pitch thirty years ago, and hope very few people will make the same mistake I did. I was young and dumb and idealistic. And Reagan really conveyed the message of a bright new hope. Neither 41 nor 43 are Reagan Republicans.

Bill Clinton also conveyed the promise of a new hope. Neither Reagan nor Clinton delivered, and yes, people did die in the Balkans, and Lebanon and Somalia and countless other places.

Makes me wish for a new and improved Hunter S. Thompson to shake people awake. He hyperbolized a lot, but he did hit some nuggets in his day.

The economy is far worse than anyone realizes, and is artifically propped up, but the entire global economy is tanking. The only thing USA really leads the world in technology today is military technology. That isn't a bad thing, but as a financial forecaster, I say we desperately need to broaden the diversity of our investments in technology. Some people, a lot actually, mistakenly believe USA is in the top twenty countries in terms of health care.

How about a national mission to be the first country to revolutionize energy, akin to the passion the country once had for the race to space. Energy isn't really that tough, all we need is a national commitment, preferably one that doesn't fall back on nuclear. If we can make nuclear energy obsolete, noone really has a justification to develop nuclear sources than can be converted for weapons.

What will the October surprise be this year? I support our troups. I don't want to waste their lives chasing down some imperial dream. Put those resources to work at home, invest in technology. Build things and ideas instead of blowing them up.

Addendum: I actually did agree with you about the 4th amendment, but noone caught the irony. Few catch the satire of Rush doing a parody, and some even buy into his spin of the Arbitron numbers, and want to be a part of the majority, and want to feel informed, and don't have the time or energy to check out the propaganda or even question why his are the most important issues. I've paid attention, because I think Rush is hilarious, but he has waffled a lot more than Kerry ever did. When the history books are written, he will be our Leni Reifenstahl, unless enough people can look to new paradigms.

I also agree with lucky2balive's post.

I agree with your initial premise, but the problem is far worse and far deeper than PNAC. Nevertheless, keep up the good work of trying to wake people up. But if ignorance is bliss, America must be the happiest place on earth.

I don't feel like either party ever really represented anything other than the ruling class. Bush paid his supporter back with a tax cut that has put enough back into the ruling elites pockets to substantially reduced the deficit and cure world hunger. The Republicans are certainly not represented by conservatives.

There is no more real politics. both sides are completely removed from the people. All either side wants is Capitol hill and the White House. Liberal and Conservative are no longer used to describe movements, but are merely labels for different sides of a war. such politics disgust me.

yes, they are, but they won't admit it. If they do, they'll be labeled as antiamericans or accused of helpping the terrorists.
