I'm not a vet, but I've played the violin for better than 40 years. I've owned three dogs during that time. I've never had a "singer." My current dog likes to lay on a pillow about three feet from me when I play. When I was growing up I used to practice sitting cross-legged on my bed (please don't tell my teacher) and my dog curled up in my lap. So I'm inclined to say that playing a violin does not hurt a dog's ears. I'd tend to say that your lab is socializing. If the sound was hurting the dog's ears he would probably try to get out of the room, not just sit there, howl and suffer!
NOW IF IT WAS A VIOLA THAT YOU WERE PLAYING I MIGHT GIVE YOU A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANSWER!!!! :-)

It probably doesn't matter how loud or soft your daughter plays because she is probably hitting harmonics that only your dog can hear, and it may be disturbing to your dog, but I don't know if it hurts the dog. If it hurt the dog the dog would probably attack the violin.

Yes, Dogs can hear all the way for a long time.
You know how those dog wistles r silent?Thats because only dogs hear that and it gets their attention but it hurts their ears so please put the labby in a differnt room so that the dogs ears arent damaged.

As soon as I saw the title of the question I thaught "bet they sing to that"
But no it really doesn't hurt their hearing. Dogs will sing to lots of sounds. Kinda like when one wolf howls, they all have to.

My dog did that with my clarinet. It is just the different high and low pitches that the insturments make. It does not bother them it is just a different sound.
