My boyfriend brought home a puppy or me. I can't decide on a name because right now he is only 2 months and is really cute and sweet but he is gonna grow up to be really big and scary looking. He is half Pitbull and half Rottweiler. I am not going to let him get mean. I don't want him vicious. I am gonna give him lots of love. It has to be a name that is original and cool.

Here are some names I've randomly picked out of a book and they have some detail to them:

- ALCATRAZ (No bars will be able to confine this crafty pup, not even the old maximum security federal penitentary just offshore in the San Francico Bay)

- ALPHA (This is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and a word that denotes the first of anyting. Does he have first and final say in your household?)

- AMAZON (In Greek mythology this was a race of fighting women who are thought to have dwelled close to the Black Sea. They were supposedly large, strong and unyielding. If your dog fits, use it.)

- AMMO (Short fo "ammunition." Well-trained guard and protection dogs are perfect examples and candidates. It might also be a good name for a future hunting companion.)

- AXLE (Divine reward of source of life. You must have done something good to deserve such a special puppy!)

- BANGLE (A decorative bracelet or anklet. A puppy profoundly attached to you might be appropriate for this name.)

- BANZAI (Originally known as a Japanese scream of patriotism or a possible forewarning to imminent destruction. This pup's cries should be taken seriously.)

BARON (The lowest echelon of nobility and a good name for a puppy that can be a royal pain!)

BEAU (The steady companion of a girl. Disarminly charming, this pup will melt most female hearts.)

BENGAL (Inspired by the Bengal tiger, the largest cat of India. A courageous, awe-inspiring puppy with an aura of supreme self-assurance deserves this name.)

BUCKO (Meaning "a bully." Tongue-in-cheek name for a timid, sheepish puppy. It might just help build up his confidence.)

CHICO ("Small" in Spanish. Great tongue-in-cheek name for any dog of the giant breeds.)

CIMARRON (Title of a gun-slinging Western movie. A bossy pup who feels that your townhouse isn't big enough for the both of you could take this name. If you can take him!)

CORONA (A dim halo that surrounds a solar body and can be seen through dim cloud cover, especially around the moon, sun or your somewhat devious little pup.)

CZAR ("Emperor" or "king." This puppy expects royal treatment.)

KOBI ("Joy" in Japanese. This puppy will bring much of it into your life.)

KONA (A relatively large city on the island of Hawaii. Your puppy would love to frolic on the tropical and volcanic beaches nearby with you.)

KUMA ("Bear" in Japanese.)

KENO (You hit the hackpot with this puppy.)

KING (No matter how many dogs have worn this name, there is no other like your puppy.)

Okay so those are a few out of this book called "When Rover Just Won't Do" It's written by Danny Scalisi & Libby Moses. It's got over 2,000 suggestions for naming your puppy. I really suggest you check it out. But here are a few names that I know not too many people use for their pets:

Hidalgo
Clancy
Bruno
Clyde
Benjii
Melton
Smokey
Buster
CJ
Blue
Mac
Jake
Biff
Calamity
Hurley
Ripley
Pec
Simba

You should get to know your pup pretty well before you tag him with a name. Try getting a hint of what his personality is and then match him with a name that best suits him. Good luck.

Pops said your dog was a mix that ended up being "mean.." That's totally untrue. A bad dog is the result of a bad owner - Not all pit bulls are mean and not all rottweilers are mean. It's really sad that people make such a HUGE generalization about dogs like that = = That's why BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) is going on right now to ban pit bulls from existance.. Any powerful breed could be next. But with the right training and lots of love your dog will be a sweetheart :) And gorgeous!!! I'm jealous :)

Name it Brutus.

Now for the bad part. You have a dog mixture that is known to NOT be sweet but mean.

Pit Bulls are VERY unpredictable as you can see by reading the newspaper and watching TV. Perfectly tame, sweet and lovable dogs have been know to kill their own masters, children and other people and children.

Rottweiler? A VERY large dog that becomes VERY attached to a single person (master). All others beware. They are very protective and therefore un-predictable as to what solution they will come up with for daily happenings. They might lick a person or might take them down if they, in their minds, figure the other person is some type of threat to its master.

Sorry, but get rid of the dog. There is NO way you will be able to control a 1/2 Pit and 1/2 Rott. IF.....IF you MUST keep the dog, please get it neutered while it is still a puppy. That will take most of the fight out of it and then you might be able to control it. Don't wait til it becomes full grown and mauls or kills someone or maybe your own child. Pops

Here's an Idea for a Name that will Flip Everyone Out ! {<^*~*^>}FIDO{<^*~*^>} Now, that is a Name that is Commonly Canine, but I ask You, when was the Last Time You actually heard of a Dog being Formally Named FIDO on His Veterinary Record ? This is a Name that is so Usual that it is actually Unusual, and Therefore has Real Class ! When Someone Asks You what His Name is, and You Say "Fido", then, They'll Say, "No, Really, What's His Name"? Again, to Disbelieving Ears, You Say "Fido" then <*>L<*>O<*>L<*>!!

my puppy's name is Nino, it means baby, it fit him perfectly when he was tiny, and as he's gotten bigger it still fits pretty good. Your dog sounds really cool... I have a pure Pit Bull and a pit mix (Nino) but he doesn't look like a pit at all. I don't think people names work well like max and things like that... there are a bunch of websites to check out cool names. Hope this helps.. good luck with your new baby.
