Quick and dirty is: Have a young lady I have been 'kicking it with' for about 3 years and most recently I have been trying to improve my religious habits...to include refraining from intercourse when I can. (I am a work in progress OK, yes, the flesh wins at times). Question is, how can I get her to help me in this venture? Don't give me that 'if she loves you she will understand nonsense'. We know that's not always the case...just because I want to do this, does not mean she does...it can be very hard on her I am sure.

why is your religious refraining you from intercourse with your girl? How old are the two of you? I say if you are not a teenager and you and your girl loves each other then what is wrong with intercourse. That is the most precious moment of a relationship is sharing the connection of each other. Or are you deciding you are wanting to wait until you are married. If so explain this to her. And sorry but really if she does love you and want to be with you then she would respect your wishes and understand otherwise if you want to be with her and she is wanting intercourse then you will have to respect her wises and understand her or there won't be a connection between the two of you and it won't work out because you both are after two different things in life. Maybe your paster could explain things to her better if she talk to him/her.

Have you tried to talk to her about this? Maybe if you do and explain to her the things in your life you want to change then she can find ways to help you.
Maybe you could also give her suggestions on other things to do instead of the old bad habits.
Don't try to change everything at once. Just take it one step at a time. Work on one thing you'd like to change, then after that becomes eaiser move on to the next.

Religion starts from the individual so if this is something you want to get into and she doesn't then it it not nonsense when people say "if she loves you, she will understand." In thie matter, her love for you must be almost religious-like and not all people are willing to follow religion. I dont - but not because I think it is hard to follow therefore I dont.

3 years is a long investment. If you love her and can't imagine life without her, then ask her to marry you. If she doesn't love you back the same way- then move on. Find someone with the same ethics as yous (this may take some time but hang in there!)

I think what you need to do is telling her the truth. What are you doing, what's you're gonna do, how can she help you, and what you want her to do.
Of course it's kinda a heavy topic to discuss, so TIMING is the important thing. Choose time when you two are relaxed and slowly lead her to the conversation.
And we girls are mostly willing to help if you are telling us the truth, and don't forget...tell her why it's important for you and her. Maybe something like...this can make our relationship better or something like that...tell her the advantage you guys will get with your venture...
