I really wish people that didn't know the answer wouldn't just say something for the points..

Feeding a dog that you do not know can be a very bad thing, especially if it is "people" food.

1. The dog could have digestion problems and it could severely hurt the dog (not likely but is possible)
2. The dog could be on a diet and that would ruin the effort the owner had to take to get the dog onto the diet (some dogs will refuse to eat the special food for awhile)
3. The dog could have allergies that you are unaware of.. how do you know that the dog isn't allergic to the marinade that is in the steak?
4. Some dogs will die after they have been fed "people" food because they refuse to go back to dog food. In most cases this won't happen, but it isn't your choice to take that chance.
5. I pray they do not have multiple dogs. Dogs have been known to fight to severe injury or even death for the rights to any amount of food even if they have an entire yard of steak
6. If the dog doesn't quit eating dog food, it can unlearn training in an instant. The dog might start begging for table scraps or might help him/herself when the owner/guests arn't paying attention. Training can be very expensive if you have a stubborn dog or if you just can't teach it yourself.
7. Some breeds will go right through/over/under that fence, right then or later, and continue to harass you since you fed them. The more you do it, the more likely this is going to happen. This can be a danger for your own health. There are some very aggressive breeds that show their mean streak when it comes to food.

You didn't say what breed it was, so I can't say that all of this applies, but I think you get the picture. Most people don't know some of these reasons, and they act out of lack of knowledge. Animals deserve better than this.

There's probably more than this but I think that's enough of a list of reason why you shouldn't just do what you want with someone else's pet. They know their dog, not you. The best thing you can do if you want to continue this, is to ask for the owner's permission, and respect their right of refusal.

Dogs are "omnivores" so there is no way that a little meat will bother them. There isn't a dog food on the market that doesn't contain some sort of meat product. I feed mine LAMB every day, it comes free of charge along with the rice that costs $27 a bag.

Unfortunately you are going to have to have a conversation with the neighbor. It is the best for the sake of the dog. You should never feed someone else's dog. It may have a strict diet for health reasons.

yes it is very healthy for him. The more expensive the steak the better for him. I feed my dog steaks all the time and the vet says he is as healthy as a horse.

I thought that you were going to say something else. What a nice thing you did. Yes, dogs can eat steak. They are carnivorous animals and they love chicken, steak and hamburgers.

That's great! I worried when I first saw this subject line!
As long as you give it to him fresh, raw, it's better than giving it to him cooked. Raw food is best for dogs, and I plan on feeding raw to my dogs. All I can say is GOOD JOB!!
